Faith can be strengthened by reading stories that offer hope and redemption. They present a one-of-a-kind chance to think deeply about and learn from stories with profound spiritual content.

Why is Netflix Removing Christian Movies?

Christianity in contemporary American culture is becoming less institutionalized. The process is not without its speed bumps, but it does pave the way for a more diverse belief system that more accurately reflects the cultural richness of our society.

As an example of a problem, there is a myth that keeps popping up about Netflix omitting movies with a Christian focus from its library so as to show its support for other faiths.

Any evidence does not support this assertion. At the height of the rumor’s popularity in 2021, Netflix stated to USA Today vehemently denying that Christian films had ever been slated for removal.

It’s important to note that Netflix wasn’t targeted specifically because of the content it included from the Bible. The streaming service regularly updates its library depending on user feedback and the content it has secured a license to display.

A short Google search confirms that Netflix is telling the truth. Netflix’s “A Week Away,” a faith-based musical, and “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone,” a religious drama from WWE Studios and Blumhouse Tilt, are both still available online and in theaters.

The genre appears to be thriving on the streaming service Netflix. There are countless number of excellent films about the Bible that you should add to your Watch Soon rather than Watch Later list.

How did all of this happen? Who or what started this rumor? The reality is… very disheartening, to be honest.

According to a statement given to USA TODAY, Netflix has no plans to remove any Christian-themed films from its service.

The satirical article “Netflix to remove all Christian content after complaints from Muslims” was published on March 29, 2016, on the site News Thump, and it is the source of the claim that Netflix is eliminating all Christian content.

News Thump bills itself as a “UK Spoof News and Satire” with the mission statement “to mock absolutely everyone, eventually.”

“We are not afraid to skip a few steps like checking facts or corroborating sources, and we never let the truth ruin a funny story (it’s much easier just to make everything up),” goes the disclaimer. “So, to be clear: “You are NOT to believe any story you read on this site.”

Media Bias/Fact Check reports that News Thump, situated in the United Kingdom, has been around since 2010 and openly declares itself to be a parody outlet.

It appears that the “Faith & Spirituality” section of Netflix is still active and can be accessed with a web search. There have been no verifiable claims in the media that the streaming service has banned Christian programming.

A film about a troubled youngster who finds redemption at a Christian summer camp will be released on March 26 by the streaming service.
