What Happened to Norman in The Promised Neverland Season 2? Down below you will find your answer to the question.
In The Promised Neverland Season 1, 12-year-old Emma and Ray with their young foster siblings managed to escape from Grace Field House – the farm where they were being raised as cattle to be eaten by demons.
Despite a series of misadventures and failed attempts to outsmart the adult in charge, Norman still devised a plan for escape. The plan has always been just to give up his life.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Norman was taken from the refuge and sent to roam as an outside. Emma has had to keep this terrible secret from everyone else in order to protect them! Season 1 of The Promised Neverland is coming soon on Crunchyroll. Those who have read the manga already know otherwise.
But last Friday s latest episode of The Promised Neverland Season 2 surprised even manga fans. To avoid spoilers, we recommend watching it on Funimation or Hulu before reading this article.
The fifth episode of The Promised Neverland Season 2 introduced the children to a life in which they have no control over their surroundings. Disguised as demons, Emma, Ray, and the others stay at a temple inhabited by a blind demon priest. For the course of one year, the kids survive only on what food they can find.
This plan works until Emma decides to bring two of the youngest kids with her, and let them search for food.
Soon enough, their identities are found out by demons. Trapped in a desperate situation, Emma and her friends are miraculously saved by a hooded demon. It soon becomes clear that this demon is no stranger to the group, but someone very close who they believe they still have time to save.
One of the many twists in “The Promised Neverland” season 2 left the manga readers and anime-only fans shocked. In the manga, written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, Norman’s death was a result of his naivety. What happened to Norman?
For those who haven’t read the manga, Norman’s last scene in Season 1 is possibly suspicious. Isabella told him to wait for a room and we never saw just what happened to him after that. In the manga, rather than being killed in Volume 6 of The Promised Neverland Season 2, Norman is taken in by a man called Peter Ratri and agrees to help him with his research in an experimental facility that attempts to achieve mass production of human meat. From there on, Norman was held in seclusion and forced to solve puzzles and take IQ tests.
In the second season of The Promised Neverland, Norman learns more about the origins of demons and reaches the conclusion that in order for children to live without fear, all adults must perish. Why did Norman turn?
Eventually, Norman can run away from Ratri and the facility and carry on his plan, taking up the name of William Minerva. He still gets an emotional reunion with Emma and Ray, their friendship can’t be as uncomplicated as before. Right from the start of Season 1, Emma is a selfless person who wants to save everyone she can and do what’s right; but in Remnant, Norman faltered.
Emma and others had difficult experiences of their own. Being rescued by the demon Mujika who doesn’t eat human meat, Emma will never again be able to see demons as an all-evil race, so she could never agree to a plan to exterminate all demons.
The reunion of Emma and Norman, an iconic moment that arguably felt rushed in the anime adaptation, marked one of the biggest changes from the original source material. The Goldy Pond arc of the manga was cut, which fans might not have minded had they liked it less after escaping from Grace Field.
Although it is a convenience, one must wonder why Norman showed up now of all times. How did he gain enough power over demons to save his friends?
Any change to the original source material is bound to be seen as controversial by many fans; this goes for how Norman reappears in Season 2 of The Promised Neverland.
But because Emma had already met with Sonju and Mujika, has she not been exposed to enough of the world to oppose Norman’s extermination plans? Perhaps. Hopefully, the next episode will answer some other questions. Episode 6 of The Promised Neverland will air on Feb. 19th for premium users and Feb. 26th for non-premium users.
