The Last of Us, a popular video game, has now been turned into an exciting TV series.
After the release of The Last of Us in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, it was widely lauded as a game-changing innovation in the medium’s storytelling.
More than two years after HBO originally revealed it was adapting Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us for television, we now have our first look at the show in action.

In March of that year (2020), reports surfaced that a TV show based on The Last of Us was in the works. It was the goal of HBO’s Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann to bring to life Joel and Ellie’s story of struggle and survival in a post-apocalyptic America. At this year’s Summer Game Fest, Druckmann referred to the collaboration between HBO, Sony Pictures, and PlayStation Productions as “the most accurate video game adaptation yet.” It appears from the eight-second footage HBO posted on Twitter earlier today that Druckmann was not exaggerating.
News about its cast, which includes Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and others, and its budget, which is rumored to be $10 million each episode, has further piqued the interest of its fans.
It’s important to remember that The Last of Us has strong ties to the cinema and literary industries. It’s easy to see parallels between the original game and the 2009 film The Road, which was based on the same-named 2006 novel by Cormac McCarthy. The better seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead and the 2007 adaptation of I Am Legend are only two instances of popular media set in post-apocalyptic environments.
The reveal just states that The Last Of Us is “coming next year,” which will disappoint those hoping for a more specific release date for the first season.
