Drake and The Weeknd are said to be feuding over supermodel Bella Hadid. According to Page Six, tensions between the close friends and frequent collaborators have been building since rumours of Drake dating the ‘Starboy’ singer’s ex surfaced earlier this month.
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, called it quits with the 21-year-old model in November of last year after an 18-month relationship. According to sources, the recent speculation surrounding Bella and Drizzy is putting a strain on the Toronto hitmakers’ friendship. “They both hang out with the same Toronto crew, and now they have to choose sides,” an insider said. “The Weeknd performed, and Drake’s supporters were like,
‘I can’t show up to that… Gotta have allegiance,'” “They’re not getting along at the moment… Drake broke the bro code, so the groups are feuding.”
According to the source, Drake and Bella are “100% hooked up” following reports of the ‘Passionfruit’ rapper throwing her a huge 21st birthday party this month.
The couple was first linked in June after they were seen leaving a LA nightclub together after a long night of partying.
The Weeknd, who is currently dating fellow chart-topper Selena Gomez, has not responded to the reports. Meanwhile, Drake threw a’re-bar mitzvah’ celebration for his 31st birthday this week, with The Weeknd and Hadid both missing.
Drake and The Weeknd Have Finished Their Feud
The Weeknd and Drake’s relationship hasn’t been easy. Drake and Bella Hadid’s dating rumours, as well as shady Instagram comments, have tested the former and The Weeknd’s friendship. Drake responded to an Instagrammer’s claim that The Weeknd wrote the majority of his Take Care album in November 2017, writing (via XXL), “Abel Tesfaye CO WROTE on ‘Shot For Me’ and ‘Practice,’ and was obviously featured on ‘Crew Love’ and ‘The Ride.’ That album has 20 songs… don’t try me.”
The Weeknd allegedly shaded Drake on his “Lost in the Fire” single in 2019. “And I just want a baby with the right one/’Cause I would never be the one to hide one,” The Weeknd sings in the song. Clearly, The Weeknd had heard Pusha T’s “The Story of Adidon” diss to the rapper far too many times.
Things have improved for the two since then. Drake admitted in the line of his drill-inspired 2020 song “War” that he wanted to bury the hatchet with his protégé. “And the boy who sounds like he’s singing in Thriller, you know that’s been my n****/ Yeah, we just had to fix things, family, six things, we can’t separate.” While we don’t know if The Weeknd is ready to drop the beef, we certainly hope to hear another collaboration from the pair in the future.
