The long-awaited second series about Willow is almost here.

When Willow came out in theatres in 1988, it was the first time we saw the dark fantasy world. In the movie directed by Ron Howard and based on a story by George Lucas, Willow (Warwick Davis) goes on an epic quest to stop the forces of darkness.

We’ve known for a while that a Willow follow-up series was in the works. The show’s production started in June 2021, but on May 26, at the Star Wars Celebration, we finally found out that the new show would be on Disney Plus later this year.

Willow is one of many things coming to Disney Plus in November 2022, but it won’t be there for another month. To celebrate, we just got a new look at what’s in store for the new series.

Here’s what we know about the Willow series right now, including the trailers, who we think will be in it, and what we know so far about the story.

Willow: Release Date Details

Disney showed a teaser trailer for the “Willow” sequel at the Star Wars Celebration in May 2022. This trailer showed when the second movie would come out. The teaser trailer says that the first episode of “Willow” will air on Disney+ on November 30, 2022.

Willow: Cast Details

You can’t have a Willow series without Willow Ufgood, so it’s good to know that Warwick Davis is going to play the farmer-turned-sorcerer again. He’s not the only one from the original cast who will be back. Joanne Whalley, who played Sorcha before she became queen, will also be back.

In the new series, there is also a new group of adventurers. Ruby Cruz from “Mare of Easttown” plays Princess Kit, the daughter of Madmartigan and Sorcha. Erin Kellyman from “Solo: A Star Wars Story” plays Jade, and Ellie Bamber from “The Serpent” plays Dove. They all want Willow to help them save the world.

Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Amer Chadha-Patel (The Third Day), Dempsey Bryk (The Silence), Rosabell Laurenti Sellers (Game of Thrones), and Talisa Garcia also star (Baptiste).

Last November, Disney released this funny video in which Warwick Davis takes us behind the scenes to meet the supporting cast working on the new series.

Plot Of Willow

The new series will take place years after the first movie and will follow a new group of adventurers.

The official summary(opens in new tab) for the new series says, “The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl who was destined to unite the realms. Together, they helped destroy an evil queen and get rid of the forces of darkness.

“Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other magical creatures live, the adventure continues as an unlikely group of heroes set out on a dangerous quest far from home, where they must face their inner demons and work together to save their world.”

Is Val Kilmer In The Willow TV Show?

With Warwick Davies coming back, one of the big questions about the next season has been whether or not Val Kilmer will come back. Kilmer played the disgraced knight Madmartigan in the first movie.

Fans of Willow will be happy to hear that Warwick Davis and executive producer Jonathan Kasdan have confirmed that Val will be “a huge part” of the new series. Kasdan told Yahoo Entertainment, “Val is a big part of this, and the first person I talked to when Warwick and I were given permission to do this was Val. We wanted him to play a part in the story. We wanted to have him on the show.”

Davis said, “Val’s spirit is very much with the series. Since we worked together on the movie, we’ve kept in touch. We’re good friends, and he’s a great guy.

“Val is still the reason I made it through the movie. When things were really dangerous and hard, he kept my spirits up. I was wet, cold, and exhausted. He made me laugh, and the whole thing was fun because of him. He also said, “Madmartigan lives on.”

Who Is Directing Willow?

Jonathan Kasdan created the TV show “Willow.” He also wrote the show’s pilot and co-runs the show with Wendy Mericle. Kasdan is also credited with writing the last two episodes of the season, 7 and 8. Kasdan wrote the script for “Solo: A Star Wars Story” before he wrote “Willow.” He has also written and directed “The First Time” and “Into the Land of Women,” which are both movies.

Mericle was the showrunner for “Arrow” on The CW and was a co-executive producer on “Big Shot,” a Disney+ show that starred John Stamos. She has also written for and made a number of other TV shows.

The first two episodes of the show were both directed by Stephen Woolfenden. Woolfenden took the place of John Entwistle, who had taken the place of Jon M. Chu because of scheduling issues (via Deadline). Woolfenden was the second-unit director for all three “Fantastic Beasts” movies and four “Harry Potter” movies.

He has also worked as a director on 15 TV shows since 2005. (via IMDb). Jamie Childs (“The Sandman”), Philippa Lowthorpe (“The Crown”), and Debs Paterson are also in charge of two episodes each (“Halo”). Ron Howard won’t be in charge of any of the episodes.

Is There A Trailer For Willow?

Lucasfilm has shown us a new look at what the Willow TV show will be like. Willow himself says, “Evil is coming to destroy us all,” and we get a hint of what’s in store for our new adventuring group as they set out to face an even bigger threat to the world of Andowyne.
