The Netflix drama Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is based on the shocking true story. People are wondering if everything about the show is true, and what may or may not have been changed for the sake of the series, given that it is played by actors. In the show, Jeffrey Dahmer is sent to the army by his father.
Dahmer stated that he was trained to work as a medic in the army, and we see him return home and never return. So, how true was all of this, and why did Jeffrey Dahmer leave the army? In real life, here’s what we know.
With the US Army, Jeffrey Dahmer was stationed in Germany.
Dahmer’s father enrolled him at Ohio State University after learning that he was unsure of what to do after high school. Dahmer’s father urged him to enlist in the army after he dropped out after only three months.
Regarding Dahmer’s time in the army, the television program is accurate. Dahmer received his medical training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, during his brief stay there. He was sent to Baumholder, West Germany, in 1979. He worked as a combat medic for the 8th Infantry Division’s 2nd Battalion, 68th Armored Regiment. From July 1979 to March 1981, he was stationed.
The Sun reported that a coworker of Dahmer’s accused him of sexual assault and said the only reason he wasn’t killed was that they were “in the middle of Belgium” and Dahmer didn’t know how to escape back to Germany. He was labeled “a sociopath, a psychopath, and a narcissist” by others. The Cinemaholic reports that it was later discovered that Dahmer had sexually assaulted two men while serving in the army.
In 1981, he left the army.
Jeffrey Dahmer was “honourably discharged” from the US army in 1981, which meant he was formally let go and given a rating ranging from good to excellent for his service. Service members who meet or exceed the required standards of duty performance and personal conduct and successfully complete their tours of duty are normally discharged with honors.
This may seem strange, but Dahmer was actually discharged two years into his three-year enlistment due to excessive drinking. He was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct later that year.
Did Jeffrey Dahmer murder anyone while in the army?
Following his arrest in 1991, German police decided to investigate any cold murder cases that occurred while Dahmer was in the country. Several cases were reopened, but none were linked to Dahmer.

When did Dahmer get released, and why?
Dahmer served nearly two years in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1981 due to alcohol abuse issues. He then returned to the United States, where he spent some time in Miami Beach before being kicked out of his hotel for failing to pay, at which point he moved back to Ohio to live with his father and stepmother.
