Liam Hemsworth Replaces Henry Cavill As Geralt Of Rivia In ‘the Witcher’ Season 4 As Henry Cavill To Exit Series

Liam Hemsworth has been tapped to replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in “The Witcher” season 4.

“The Witcher” has been renewed for a fourth season by Netflix, though the hit fantasy series will be missing one familiar face. After the third season starts, Henry Cavill will leave the show, and Liam Hemsworth will take over the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.

The streamer announced the renewal and new cast members on Saturday afternoon. Both Hemsworth and Cavill also released statements. Taking the tone of both statements into account, the decision seems to be a friendly hand-off.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement on Instagram. “I’m stepping down as the White Wolf, and the wonderful Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take over.”

As with the best literary characters, I pass the torch to Liam with respect for the time I spent playing Geralt and excitement to see what he does with one of the most interesting and complex characters ever written. Liam, good sir, this character has so much to offer, so dive in and see what you can find.

“As a fan of The Witcher, I’m thrilled to get the chance to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been a great Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s letting me take over and play the White Wolf in the next part of his story,” Hemsworth said in a statement. “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years, and what you did with this well-known character inspired me. I may be stepping into some big shoes, but I’m really excited to join The Witcher world.”

Since “The Witcher” started on Netflix in December 2019, Cavill has played the monster hunter Geralt. The actor will now leave the show after the third season, which is set to come out in the summer of 2023.

Over the years, “The Witcher” has become something of a flagship franchise for Netflix. “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” a four-part prequel series starring Michelle Yeoh, will start on Christmas Day. After Cavill left, the main series of the franchise had to find a new lead actor. This shows how invested the streamer is in the property.

Hemsworth is best known for playing Gale Hawthorne in “The Hunger Games” series, which he did with Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence. More recently, he starred with Christoph Waltz in “Most Dangerous Game,” a series on the Roku Channel that was renewed for a second season in August 2021. He is also in the upcoming thriller “Poker Face,” which stars Russell Crowe.

Cavill is still in high demand in the entertainment business. The actor stars with Millie Bobby Brown in “Enola Holmes 2,” which will be available on Netflix next week. He also recently agreed to work with “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” director Guy Ritchie again.

Cavill has also said that he will play Superman again in an upcoming Warner Bros. movie, but there are no writers or directors currently working on the project.

News of Cavill’s return as Superman comes almost five years after 2017’s “Justice League,” which was the actor’s last long role as the DC Comics superhero. But Cavill did make a cameo in the new movie “Black Adam.” He was in a scene that hinted at a fight between Superman and the antihero played by Dwayne Johnson.

Cavill was allowed to take a break from filming Season 3 of “The Witcher” to work on “Black Adam.” Now, he leaves the show for good.
