A new free-to-play digital card game based on the Marvel Universe has been created by the former Hearthstone director, Ben Brode, and the Second Dinner development studio. New card games are always a treat for us, since that’s what we do best. From the official announcement and various gaming media outlets, here’s all we know so far about the game.

HOW TO PLAY MARVEL SNAP? GAMEPLAY WALKTHROUGH
The game focuses on small decks and rapid games (3 minutes), with a bluffing mechanic we’ve never seen outside of poker. The original disclosure claims that the debut set of cards would number roughly 150, without including unique art variants (just cosmetic skins), and that new cards will be added regularly to keep the gameplay fresh.
How does it work? Gameplay Walkthrough video explains rules and card effects. Both players draw 3 cards from their 12-15-card decks (no duplicates). The game gives you 3 random places to combat for, exposing the 2nd and 3rd on following turns. Players play character cards at once, then reveal and resolve their effects each round. Similar to Hearthstone, you can play increasingly powerful cards as rounds continue. Unless a player forfeits earlier, the winner is the one who controls 2 of the 3 places after 6 rounds.
Marvel Snap lets me raise the stakes mid-match, unlike many online card games. In ranked mode, every game is a gamble for ladder points, but in Snap, either player can double the stakes once each game. In round 6, if neither player has conceded, the stakes are increased again. You can forfeit before the final round and just lose 1 ranking point, but if both players Snap and the game continues to round 6, one player will walk away with 8 of the other player’s points!
WILL THERE BE MICROTRNASATIONS IN MARVEL SNAP?
The creators of Marvel Snap have said that the game will be free to play. As we’ve seen in other games, microtransactions are often a part of free-to-play games. There is no guarantee that this game will have microtransactions, but it is very likely that Marvel Snap will. It’s also not clear, if the game does have microtransactions, if they will be more subtle or a big part of the game.
