Magic: The Gathering Netflix Series – Release Date, Cast, Plot & Trailer

Magic: The Gathering Netflix Series is coming soon, a fantasy card game published and owned by Wizards of the Coast, is getting a new animated adaptation that will premiere on Netflix in 2020. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Russos said they are longtime Magic: The Gathering fans.

Do I need to be scared?
Not at all! In order to create an authentic yet accessible live-action/animated hybrid series. It’s unclear when the MAGIC streaming series will release, but back in November 2018, we reported on a placeholder date that was set to launch sometime in 2021. This was shown when a user typed ‘Magic: The Gathering’ into the search bar, but it looks like Netflix has already removed it.

 What Will Be The Storyline Of The Magic: The Gathering Netflix Series?

Octopie CEO Isaac Krauss said that “the tone of the MTG show’s story is dark and that the writers have developed a character-based story for the series. He also stated that there are currently no other specifics regarding the characters or settings, but based on this placeholder shown above, it will be centered around magic-wielding Planes”.

Nic Kelman, Wizards of the Coast’s head of story and entertainment and executive producer on the Netflix series assure fans that this new Twelve-episode Netflix series will be true to what they love about Magic.

So What the series will do is, it will follow the spirit of preexisting stories and characters while honoring world-building. Moving to a new medium with episodic webcomics, the adventures of Planeswalkers will continue in their own continuity without connecting to any other canon.

Drawing from the lore of Magic, the cards that help make up a person are rich with detail and complexity. The Gatewatch is an iconic group of characters in the game.

For the setting, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater states that Wizards of the Coast don’t want a movie or TV show with people from Earth traveling to Magic’s worlds, so don’t expect the show to feature a real-world setting. Rosewater confirms the upcoming MTG Netflix series’ continual existence in its own continuity.

Jeremy Jarvis, franchise team director for Magic: The Gathering, told Polygon that the show will be a ‘character-driven franchise space. With this library of fantastic characters and beautiful places, we look forward to spreading the story in a new way. Currently, because Season 1 of the show has not been released in its entirety yet, it is unknown who will be producing and writing future episodes.

Animation production company Octopie will be overseeing the production of Netflix’s Magic: The Gathering series. Their collaboration with the Netflix-owned company will be their “biggest” project to date. The studio is best known for creating animated shorts on YouTube and Robert Rodriguez’s Explosion Jones

Netflix has given series greenlit to Magic The Gathering. Eric Calderon, Dave Newberg, Todd Makurath are in charge of producing the work while Isaac Krauss and Mike Larocca will be serving as executive producers

The Russo brothers will oversee the translation of Magic’s vast lore in a Netflix series. With writers Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina, they’ll be showrunners and chief writers on the project. Gilroy previously worked on Star Wars: Clone Wars and Molina wrote for The Tick and Agent Carter.

Other writers include Mairghread Scott (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Diya Mishra. The team will assemble alongside Wizards of the Coast’s Nic Kelman and the game’s creators.

Although Bardel Entertainment and Hasbro Allspark will be producing the series, Hironori Mochizuki of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is going to be supervising as its director.Magic The Gathering Netflix Series

Magic: The Gathering Netflix Series Release Date

In April 2020, Joe Russo said that the Magic Netflix series was still in the script phase and couldn’t elaborate on any other aspects of the show’s development. As of this date, the cast and voice actors for the Magic: The Gathering Netflix series have not yet been announced.

No trailers have been released yet. With the show expected to be out in 2021, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a trailer by the end of Q1 of 2020.

In July 2021, Wizards of the Coast announced Magic Showcase 2021, an event where the company will reveal plans for Magic: The Gathering next year. Since there’s a good chance that they will announce new details about the upcoming Netflix series during this event, we do not yet know when more information will be forthcoming. The One Piece Film Z synopsis says that Luffy will have a showdown with Navy Admiral Fujitora to resolve the ongoing conflict.
