With just two more specials to go, Jodie Whittaker’s time in the TARDIS is coming to an end. A new trailer for the first of those episodes has been released, and it looks like it will be a good one! For example, a short teaser has been released for the Easter special Legend of the Sea Devils, in which the titular monsters will take center stage for the first time in the modern era as they fight the Doctor and his crew (alongside some historical pirates).
If you were looking at all the big things Flux had to show you, you might not have noticed this: “Beware of the forces that gather against you and their Master.” This is one big thing that hasn’t been talked about much yet. Doctor Who is different from other TV shows, and the show’s social media accounts and the official episode transcript for “The Vanquishers” both say it’s Master with a capital “M.” This is the Master, the Doctor’s best enemy, and the word “master” in this case means “leader.” It looks like the Master, played by Sacha Dhawan, will likely return before Jodie Whittaker’s time on the show is up. If history repeats itself, he may return sooner than fans expect.
While there hasn’t been an official full-length trailer, teasers and stills have confirmed that the next special, which isn’t set to air until this spring, will be called “Legend of the Sea Devils.” It will follow the Doctor, Yaz, and Dan as they travel back to the 1800s and meet the fearsome pirate Zheng Yi Sao, also known as Madame Ching. There will also be a special episode of the show that features the return of classic Who monsters the Sea Devils. This will be their first appearance on TV since 1984, and it will be the first time they’ve been seen in person since 1984.

The trailer doesn’t reveal any new information about the plot, but it does give us a sense of how big the episode will be, with a floating galleon, sci-fi sword fights, and a monster that is probably controlled by the Sea Devil. In the new footage, Yaz says that the Doctor is “like a kid sometimes,” and the Doctor doesn’t like that. Yaz’s feelings for the Doctor were almost shown on screen in the last episode. There might be a few awkward moments after that. Only time can tell… An even better look at some of the Sea Devils who are going to be facing the TARDIS team this time around was shown on another poster. It’s time to close the doors and windows.
Last week, we saw a few first-look images from Legend of the Sea Devils. They showed the new Sea Devils and the pirate queen Madame Ching (Crystal Yu), who unintentionally unleashes them (and who we see a bit more of in the new trailer). Another picture showed the Doctor and Yaz, with Yaz wearing a costume that didn’t belong to her. She was probably trying to blend in for her swashbuckling adventure. Dan doesn’t do so well on this front, as shown in the trailer. He wears a panto pirate costume that Yaz told him to try on.
This week, star Mandip Gill said that she even hurt her hand while fighting off the Sea Devils. This means that one way or another, the swashbuckling was pretty intense. This is what she said at the Radio Times Covers Party: “We do this really cool thing, and they hurt my finger, and I can’t stop thinking about it.” The Sea Devil hurt my finger. Not many people can say that.
“It didn’t go over very well.” ‘This sword is really heavy.’ I’ve also hurt my finger. “Should we stop?”
