On August 28, 1996, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar had their first child, Josiah Matthew Duggar. He was the seventh child of the marriage, and they had eleven more children after him.

Josiah was known to be a jokester as a kid, often pulling pranks on his parents and siblings. Growing up, he and his younger sister Joy-Anna have a very close relationship, often spending their free time playing together.

Josiah was educated at home as a child. At the age of seventeen, he sat for the GED exam and passed. For this occasion, his family threw a graduation party.

Josiah was allocated “jurisdictions” as a youngster, which the family referred to as chores. Trash removal was one of Josiah’s many responsibilities throughout the year 2004. In 2011, one of Josiah’s responsibilities was to clean the restrooms. Most likely, Josiah was relieved of all jurisdictional responsibilities when he started courting, just as his sisters had been when they first began courting.

Parents of Josiah began using a buddy system in 2001, pairing each older kid with a smaller one to look after. Dressing, washing, and feeding their younger companions were all common responsibilities for an elder friend. For a brief period of time, it’s possible that Josiah was a younger companion in this system. Individual friends were phased out in favor of buddy teams, each led by one of the family’s eldest four daughters, by 2009. As a result, Josiah did not have a buddy group.

For many years, Josiah had piano lessons from Ruth Anita Anderson, who he and his siblings called “Nana.” He also had lessons in the violin. As an extra on Courageous in 2010, Josiah was cut from the final product.
