John Wick: Chapter 4 is now in theaters, and it has almost three hours of massive action set pieces, amazing fights, and gunfights. But just like with any big hit, it’s never too early to talk about a second. The latest book in the series ends in a way that will make fans argue, but that doesn’t mean the story won’t continue.
John Wick: Chapter 5 has already been given the go-ahead, but we don’t know much about what it will look like. But the people who made Chapter 4 have given hints about what will happen next in the series. So, here’s what we know about John Wick’s future.
Will There Be A Chapter 5 Of John Wick?
Probably. John Wick: Chapter 5 was officially given the go-ahead in 2020, soon after Chapter 3 came out. And based on how well the fourth movie in the series has done at the box office so far, it’s hard to believe that Lionsgate has lost interest in making another one.
Director Chad Stahelski, on the other hand, says that the most important thing about making another John Wick movie is if series star Keanu Reeves wants to do it and if he and Reeves have enough great ideas for new moves and set pieces to make another chapter worthwhile.
In an interview with Collider, Stahelski talked about how he came up with ideas for new John Wick movies. He said, “Literally every Wick has been written or at least thought of in Japan at the Imperial Hotel with me and Keanu on our press tour. After a few glasses of Yamazaki or Hibiki whisky, we find ourselves saying, “I didn’t know we could do this.” And this is how we start writing them.”
When Does John Wick 5 Release?
Stahelski says he needs a break between each of these movies, so don’t expect John Wick: Chapter 5 to come out in 2024.
Stahelski explained to Slashfilm how he works between movies:
Every time I come back to a ‘Wick,’ there’s been two or three years in between. That’s a lot of time for a human. You know how many pieces of art or music or museums or locations I’ve gone to in three years? Huge. I mean, think of what you do in a year. What would you do in three? Don’t you think all that would influence you? I just don’t think I’d be very good jumping right into something. I need a little bit of time to get better. I’ve got to go practice.
A new John Wick movie isn’t on Lionsgate’s schedule yet, but it won’t come out until at least 2025 or 2026.
Does John Wick Die At The End Of John Wick 4?
In the end, Caine helps John fight his way up the stairs to the Sacré-Coeur, and even though there are some scary times along the way, they make it just in time to the top. During the fight, John is badly hurt, and in the last round, the Marquis asks if he can take Caine’s place and deal the final blow.
But he doesn’t know that John hasn’t fired his last round, so he can shoot the bad guy from close range and kill him right away. This means that John won the fight but didn’t have long to celebrate. The wound he got earlier is terrible enough to kill him, and he dies peacefully.
Is Ballerina A John Wick Spinoff?
Ballerina is a spinoff of the John Wick series. It will follow a graduate of the ballet/assassin school that John sees in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Shay Hatten wrote John Wick: Chapter 4, and Emerald Fennell, who wrote Promising Young Woman, wrote the story for Ballerina. It will be led by Ana de Armas and directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard). So far, we don’t know much about the movie, except that Lionsgate bought the story from Hatten, who wrote some extra material for John Wick: Chapter 3 and then helped write Chapter 4. There is no date yet for when Ballerina will come out.

What Exactly Is A Continental Spinoff Series?
The Continental is a John Wick prequel miniseries about a hotel company that serves the assassins’ underworld in the series’ universe. Winston (Ian McShane) runs the New York branch, and Chapter 4 explores the hotel’s Osaka location. The series, created by Greg Coolidge (Ride Along), is scheduled to premiere on Peacock later this year, with Mel Gibson starring.
Who’s Coming Back For John Wick 5?
Even though Chapter 4 ends with him in trouble, we can’t imagine a John Wick movie without Keanu Reeves, so he’ll be back. Ian McShane will probably come back as Winston, the owner of the Continental. At the end of the fourth movie, Winston gets his job back, so McShane will likely return.
Lance Reddick won’t be back as Charon, who was also killed off in the fourth movie but could have returned in flashbacks. This is because he died too soon. In the spin-off Ballerina, we will get to see Reddick one last time as the loyal butler.
Aside from these, it’s hard to say who else might return. Maybe Donnie Yen as Wick’s old friend Caine, if he makes it through Rina Sawayama’s Akira’s attempt to kill him in the scene after Chapter 4’s credits.
Shamier Anderson’s mysterious Tracker could return, and Ana de Armas’s ballerina Rooney might appear in one of the big movies.
John Wick 4’s Reviews & Box Office Projections Suggest John Wick 5 Will Happen
It’s not impossible that John Wick: Chapter 4 won’t do well at the box office, but it’s unlikely. In fact, it’s expected to have the biggest opening weekend of the series so far. The fact that critics think it’s the best John Wick movie yet (it has a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes) only makes that point stronger. The show is so popular that there’s no way the studio would put it on the shelf. Even if the movie doesn’t do well, which is rare, Lionsgate would still want to make John Wick 5, but it would be shorter and cost less.
Lionsgate has taken even more significant steps to grow the universe. The spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is currently in production, and the Peacock series The Continental, which follows Winston in the 1970s, is also in development. And most importantly, Reeves will be in both projects, giving the shows similar to John Wick a stamp of authenticity. Even though Stahelski needs a break, John Wick: Chapter 5 will be made with or without him. The company could also wait until the director is ready to return, which would be a good move. In many ways, the world of John Wick feels like it’s just getting started, and John Wick 5 is a given.
