If you woke up this morning and found that Instagram had suspended your account for no reason, you’re not the only one. A lot of users have said they can’t get into their accounts and are told that their accounts have been locked. The problem has been acknowledged by the social network, which is owned by Meta, and the company says it is looking into the widespread outage.

In a tweet, Instagram’s communications team said, “We know that some of you are having trouble getting into your account.” “We are looking into it, and we’re sorry for the trouble.”

We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown

The problem seems to be some kind of bug rather than a mass ban of accounts. But the widespread problem is causing a lot of confusion because the app has told many users that they broke its rules. Instagram users are also seeing a drop in the number of people who follow them. This is likely because so many accounts are being closed.

According to reports posted by the third-party web monitoring service Downdetector, the problem started around 8:30 a.m. EDT/5:30 a.m. PDT. At the time this was written, the website had more than 4,000 reports.

Mary Ann Azevedo, who works for TechCrunch, is one of the thousands of users who have mistakenly kicked off the social network. Users who can’t get to the service see a message that says, “You still have 30 days to disagree with this decision.” Instagram hasn’t told people what to do in this situation.

Some users say that after verifying their email and phone number, they were able to get their account to work again, while others are still having problems even after trying to get back in.

TechCrunch has contacted Instagram about the widespread problem, and this article will be updated when we find out more.
