As more of us work remotely, we use our laptops on the go. That creates more chances for our laptop screens to get dirty or damaged during travel.

A laptop screen may have smudges and streaks accumulated over months of usage. Smudges are minor inconveniences. At least you can wipe them away quickly.

Yet, scratches and more permanent damage are the more challenging issues. A damaged laptop screen is distracting. It can ruin the experience of opening your laptop, turning it on, and completing some work.

Also, the damage signifies there’s potentially more damage to your device underneath the surface.

Are you someone who likes to carry their laptop and use it outside the home? If so, a few precautionary measures can protect your laptop screen. Let’s learn a few tips and tricks.

Take some basic precautions to protect your laptop.

Your laptop screen is best protected when you take the necessary steps to protect the whole laptop. Here are a few tips:

1. Use a laptop bag. The bag will guard your laptop against physical damage. It’s equipped with padding and protection to secure your device. You never want to transport your laptop without having it inside a specially-designed carrying bag.

2. Avoid eating while on your laptop. When eating, we risk spreading food debris to different parts of the laptop. That leads to smudging and filth on the screen. Avoid it altogether by not eating around your device.

3. Don’t bring your laptop to dangerous areas. Your laptop shouldn’t be near anything that could spill on it or cause damage. Keep it away from the kitchen, bathroom, and workspaces like the garage.

4. Don’t let the laptop fall. Be careful moving your laptop. Fold it up and carry it. Do not leave the laptop open when you hold it since that increases the chance of accidental drops. Be careful when moving with your device.

Invest in laptop screen security

You may want to protect your laptop screen for a different reason than physical damage. If you use your laptop in a public place, it’s easy for another person to lean over and see what you’re doing.

It’s troublesome when you are dealing with sensitive information. That’s where a laptop privacy screen makes sense.

A laptop privacy screen attaches to your computer, acting as a filter. From where you sit, everything is visible on-screen.

For anyone looking from a side angle, the filter prevents them from seeing or reading the display.

When choosing a privacy screen, ensure the size fits your laptop. A properly installed privacy screen solves the privacy issue and protects your screen from being seen by others.

Some modern laptops come with inbuilt security features to protect the user’s privacy, such as the ASUS ExpertBook series. The ASUS ExpertBook B9 features an intuitive AdaptiveLock security feature.

It uses a smart proximity sensor to recognize your face and log into the system. When you step away from your device, the laptop automatically locks itself until you return. This technology maximizes the privacy of your laptop’s screen.

Clean your laptop screen regularly with microfiber material

Laptop cleaning kits are reasonably affordable. They contain microfiber material that is perfect for cleaning your laptop screen.

Typically, you might use paper towels or facial tissue, but they can scratch your screen’s surface and cause damage. A microfiber cloth is the best way to clean your laptop screen without scratching the surface.

You don’t have to use cleaners like Windex or soap and water. A clean microfiber cloth takes care of everything.

Screen protector for your laptop

There are all sorts of ways you can accidentally scratch or permanently mark a laptop screen.

If you carry your laptop in a bag, small materials inside can potentially cause damage to your screen. Or you may try to wipe something off your screen and discover you’ve just scratched it.

Just like with a smartphone, there are screen protectors that can protect laptops against scratches, smudges, and marks.

There are cheap plastic screen protectors you can buy, but they are prone to scratches over time. Investing in a tempered glass laptop screen protector is a wise option.

Even though these protectors are more expensive, they are scratch-resistant and work much better. Regardless of what type of screen protector you pick, ensure that it covers the entirety of the screen.

Be careful never to bend your laptop screen.

A laptop screen should not be bent. Unfortunately, it can bend in various scenarios, especially when you place a heavy weight on the screen.

If you’re in bed with your laptop and roll over it, that’s another way the screen could bend. Similarly, some people have a poor habit of leaving their laptops on the ground. If you accidentally step on it, that will break the screen.

When placing too much force on a laptop display, you end up with dead pixels. These are permanent. The only way to fix the issue is to purchase a new laptop.

This permanent damage can also occur from dropping the device, which could put enough force to snap the laptop screen.

Even if a snapped laptop screen bounces back with no visible physical damage, you may still find the pixels are gone. If the dead pixels bother you, the best solution is to buy new laptops as a replacement.
