Fargo has been on our screens for two years, and fans’ prayers have been answered as work on the highly anticipated fifth season begins.
Fargo is an award-winning black comedy crime drama that also serves as an anthology series, which means that each season brings a thrilling new story. FX has begun teasing details about the upcoming installment of the award-winning limited series, most notably the cast.
Newsweek has a rundown of everything we know about Fargo Season 5, including the release date, cast, trailer, plot, and more.
Fargo Season 5 Renewed Or Not?
Another Minnesota story is on the way. The FX television series Fargo has been renewed for a fifth season. The renewal comes as no surprise given that FX Chief John Landgraf previously stated his desire for another season.
Little is known about the upcoming fifth season, except that it will take place in 2019. The season will also attempt to answer the questions, “When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping?” and “When is a kidnapping, not a kidnapping?” “What if your wife is not your wife?” Fargo’s fifth season will be shot ahead of Hawley’s upcoming Alien prequel series because it must be shot in the Midwest during the winter.

Fargo Season 5 will premiere in 2023!
There is no set release date at this time. However, a new and excited cast member’s social media post hints at when filming will begin. According to Moorjani:
“Aw jeez…grateful and excited beyond words to join the fantastical world of @Fargo. And SOS – please send vegan winter coats my way immediately”
Some people believe that previous release dates are good predictors of future releases. Given this, season five is very likely to premiere on FX in the spring or fall of 2023. Nonetheless, a year seems like a long time, which gives fans plenty of time to catch up on all the drama by watching seasons 1-4, which are currently available on Hulu.
Fargo Season 5: Cast
It’s fine not knowing much about the plot because the majority of the fun in anticipating any new season of Fargo is imagining how the confirmed actors will fit into Noah Hawley’s strange midwestern universe. The fifth season, indeed, has some intriguing names attached to it. There’s Jon Hamm, who is directing a television season for the first time since Mad Men ended in 2015.
Juno Temple, best known for her role as Ted Lasso’s sweet and ambitious marketing and public relations manager Keeley, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, whose credits span decades and include Weeds, Twin Peaks, Backdraft, and The Hateful Eight, will join him.
Stranger Things fan favorite Joe Keery will play Gator Tillman, New Girl’s Lamorne Morris will play Witt Farr, and Never Have I Ever’s Richa Moorjani will play Indira Olmstead, FX announced in August.
Fargo Season 5: Plot
As with most shows in the early stages of development, little information about the plot has been released. However, we do know that the new installment will take place in a pre-pandemic world in 2019. Furthermore, the setting remains in the Midwest, and kidnapping appears to be at the heart of the plot. This was confirmed by an earlier teaser for fans.
“Fargo has traveled through decades, cities, and families, and the fifth installment will be no different: Set in 2019, when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?” writes Newsweek.
Furthermore, the tone of this installment will be slightly different. While Seasons 1-4 achieved a balance of drama and comedy, FX Chairman John Landgraf has confirmed a clear shift toward comedy, saying:
