In this article, the scribe talks about the renewal of Criminal Minds, which also has an NBC premiere date that was confirmed in this article.
When the long-running crime drama Criminal Minds went off the air in 2020, many fans were sad to see the brilliant minds of the F.B.I. Behavioral Analysis Unit leave. But the team will be back in 2022 when Criminal Minds: Evolution starts as an original show on Paramount Plus.
These fans have a reason to celebrate now that the Criminal Minds universe is growing. Not only will there be familiar faces in the new show, but Paramount Plus says the team will face “their biggest threat yet.”
Here’s what we know about the first season of Criminal Minds: Evolution.
Criminal Minds Evolution: Release Date Details
At Paramount+’s Television Critics Association (TCA) event on Sept. 21, showrunner, executive producer, and writer Erica Messer confirmed that the first two episodes of the reboot will air on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24.
Every Thursday, there will be a new episode, and the mid-season finale will be on December 15. After a break for the holidays, the show will start back up on Thursday, January 12, and run until February 9, 2023.
Criminal Minds Evolution: Cast Details
Good news for people who have watched Criminal Minds for a long time. Several people from the original cast of Criminal Minds are in Criminal Minds: Evolution. Aisha Tyler is one of them. Tyler has been in a lot of TV shows in Hollywood, like Archer and Fear the Walking Dead, to name a few. She was also a co-host of The Talk on daytime TV for many years. Tyler is back as Dr. Tara Lewis, the role she played before.
Joe Mantegna is also coming back to the Criminal Minds world. Aside from the crime show, Mantegna is known for being the voice of Fat Tony and Fit Tony on The Simpsons for many years. He has also recently been seen in As We See It and Barry. He plays David Rossi here once more.
Here is a full list of the Criminal Minds cast members who will also be in the new show:
- Joe Mantegna as David Rossi
- A.J. Cook as Jennifer Jareau
- Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia
- Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis
- Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvarez
- Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss
If you’re wondering where regulars like Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) are, Messer, teases that their desks “are still there,” leaving open the possibility that one or both could return for the spinoff series. The showrunner said that scheduling conflicts kept them from appearing in these first episodes.
What Is Criminal Minds: Evolution About?
The following is what Paramount Plus says about the plot of Criminal Minds: Evolution:
“In Criminal Minds: Evolution, an “UnSub” (an unknown criminal) uses the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. This is the biggest problem the FBI’s best profilers have ever faced. As the world starts to get back to normal and the network starts to work, the team has to find them one murder at a time.”
Erica Messer, who runs and produces Criminal Minds: Evolution, talked about the new version of the long-running show at a Paramount Plus press event. In addition to the threat of the UnSub, the show picks up with what the Criminal Minds team has been doing while they’ve been gone and how the world has changed them, especially David Rossi.
