Barry Keoghan Is In Negotiations To Join Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” Sequel Opposite Paul Mescal, Fresh From His Oscar Nomination For “The Banshees of Inisherin” And High-Profile Roles In Blockbuster Films “Eternals” And “The Batman.”
If the deal is closed, Keoghan will join fellow 2023 Oscar nominee Paul Mescal (best actor nominee for “Aftersun”) in the Paramount Pictures film. Scott returns to direct and produce the sequel to the 2000 blockbuster “Gladiator,” which was nominated for 12 Academy Awards, won five, including Best Picture, and grossed $460 million worldwide.
In the movie written by David Scarpa, Keoghan will play Emperor Geta. There was a Roman emperor with the same name, but it needs to be clarified how closely the movie will stick to actual events. Mescal will perform the role of Lucius, the son of Lucilla. (Connie Nielsen, Who Is Thought To Be Returning)
Original director of photography John Mathieson, production designer Arthur Max, and costume designer Janie Yates are also returning for the sequel. The original film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards and won five, including the award for best picture.
Scott is also producing the “Gladiator” sequel with Michael Pruss via Scott Free, Doug Wick, and Lucy Fisher via Red Waggon Entertainment, and with Scott Free and Michael Pruss via Scott Free. Walter Parkes and Laurie Macdonald are producing the show.
Scott directed Joaquin Phoenix most recently in the Apple TV+ film “Napoleon,” also written by Scarpa. This film’s release date has yet to be determined, but production is complete.
The release date for the untitled “Gladiator” sequel is November 22, 2024. Some bloodshed to accompany your Thanksgiving dinner!
