In the upcoming horror movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the story of A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh will take a dark turn.
Blood and Honey, according to its IMDb page, is being directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and features Maria Taylor as Maria, Danielle Ronald as Zoe, May Kelly as Tina, Natasha Tosini as Lara, Amber Doig-Thorne as Alice, and Chris Cordell as Piglet, among others. Christopher Robin, Eeyore, Kanga, and Roo, who are also from Hundred Acre Wood, have not been confirmed to appear.
This version of Winnie the Pooh is not to be confused with the Disney-licensed character, who is known for wearing a red shirt. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh universe, with the exception of Tigger, became public domain on January 1. This means that anyone can work on their “original versions of Pooh” and use them in “any of your creative work,” such as movies, musicals, and plays, says Jennifer Jenkins, director of the Center for the Study of the Public Domain at Duke University.

How can anyone use Winnie the Pooh? What about copyright?
Winnie the Pooh is said to be in the public domain by more than one source. Any artist can do whatever they want with the character, as long as they don’t directly reference Disney’s version of Winnie the Pooh, which is protected by copyright. When you look at pictures of Blood and Honey’s Winnie, you can see that her costume is nothing like Disney’s Winnie.
According to Disney Dining, the original character was made by A.A. Milne. It was first seen in the book Winnie the Pooh, which came out in 1925 and was about Christopher Robin and his stuffed bear, Winnie the Pooh. Milne’s book was so popular that in 1928, he wrote a sequel called The House at Pooh Corner. In 1961, the estate of A.A. Milne sold some rights to Winnie the Pooh to the Walt Disney Company. Winnie the Pooh became one of the most well-known Disney characters. The character has been in both movies and TV shows.
