Former pro golfer Tom Watson and his wife LeslieAnne Wade said they are getting divorced after only three months of marriage.
Wade, who worked for CBS Sports for a long time, got an “unexpected illness” that made it impossible for the couple to stay together.
“Over the past few months, I have been solely focused on a difficult road due to a sudden illness. Tom has been helpful, and he has made sure I get the best care possible. I can’t thank him enough, and I’m lucky that I’ll get better in every way “On Monday, Wade sent a tweet.
“We have to end our marriage because we haven’t been able to start and build our relationship well in these early days. He will always be my best friend, and our bond will last forever.”
Wade is the third wife of Watson. From 1972 until 1997, for most of his work life, he was married to Linda Rubin. He got married again two years later, and they were together until Hilary Watson died of pancreatic cancer in 2019.
Watson proposed to Wade in May, and they got married two months later. Wade was the top executive at CBS Sports in charge of communications. It’s been 15 years since they met. The man who has won eight majors, including five Open Championships, has five kids.
