Here is a guide to the performers at the Oscars in 2023. While the main emphasis of the three-hour-long Oscars show is on the awards themselves, a great deal more goes into the production. This included Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue and other segments throughout the evening, regular clips of the nominees for Best Picture, and several artists performing songs from some of the nominated films.
In addition to the victors of the Oscars in 2023, the ceremony itself featured performances of songs nominated for Best Original Song. This necessitated a vast array of performers, spanning from musical legends to movie stars. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Everything Everywhere All At Once, RRR, Tell It Like A Woman and Top Gun: Maverick were nominated for Best Original Song.
“Applause” by Sofia Carson and Diane Warren from “Tell It Like a Woman”
Sofia Carson and Diane Warren sang “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman as the first song at the Oscars in 2023. Warren wrote the song for the movie. He has been nominated for 14 Oscars, including six in a row, but has never won one. She sang with Carson early in the ceremony. Their song was the first original song nominee to be played. There are no other nominations for Tell It Like It Is, so this is a bit of a surprise. However, people are drawn to Warren’s name.

“This Is a Life” by David Byrne, Son Lux, and Stephanie Hsu from Everything Everywhere All At Once
David Byrne, Son Lux, and Stephanie Hsu sang “This Is A Life” by Everything Everywhere All at Once at the Oscars in 2023. This was a change of pace from the other songs that were sung. The song is one of the most memorable parts of a movie full of memorable parts. It fits with the movie’s ideas of many lives that could have been. Mitski sang in the original version, but Stephanie Hsu, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, sang for the Oscars 2023 performance.

Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairavaprevious – “Naatu Naatu” From RRR
RRR was one of the most talked-about and best movies of 2022, but India didn’t choose it as its entry for Best International Film, which was a surprise. But that helped it get a nod for Best Original Song, which it got for “Naatu Naatu,” which Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava performed at the Oscars 2023. They also sang the song for the movie. It was backed by the same dance performance from the movie that made “Naatu Naatu” a viral hit in the first place. Ultimately, “Naatu Naatu” won the award for Best Original Song.

Lenny Kravitz – “Calling All Angels” For The In Memoriam Section
In addition to the nominees for Best Original Song, Lenny Kravitz gave a special and moving performance of his song “Calling All Angels” during the “In Memoriam” segment, which honors people from the movie business who died in the past year. John Travolta introduced Kravitz’s act. Olivia Newton-John, who was in Grease with Travolta, was one of the people who were remembered.

Lady Gaga – “Hold My Hand” From Top Gun: Maverick
Even though Lady Gaga wasn’t supposed to sing, she changed her mind and chose to sing “Hold My Hand,” which plays near the end of Top Gun: Maverick. Top Gun: Maverick was one of the most popular movies of 2022, so it made sense that it was represented at the Oscars 2023 in more ways than just the awards. Lady Gaga has performed at the Oscars before. She and Bradley Cooper sang “Shallows” from the movie A Star Is Born.

“Lift Me Up” by Rihanna is from the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
“Lift Me Up” is Rihanna’s first new song in six years. It plays at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, between the end of the movie and the scene after the credits. It’s an emotional song with words that ask to be kept safe and cared for, which fits Shuri’s journey in the movie. Rihanna sang at the Oscars 2023, which was her second big show of 2023. She also sang at the Super Bowl halftime show.
