Anyone who has ever read the manga ‘Tsurezure Children will understand its incredible. All manga fans, including myself, had great hopes for this anime from the start.
However, I was first concerned about the anime’s ability to adapt a manga with over 140 chapters, each of which is just a few pages long. From the first episodes, I was sure that the anime, if not superior, is at least on pace with the original material.
And, despite the show’s brief duration of 12 episodes, I never felt that the story’s rhythm was incorrect. With its original premise, broadcast of characters, and deep connections, ‘Trurezure Children’ has truly raised the standard for rom-com anime.
It achieves the ideal balance of drama, humor, romance, and a healthy dose of reality, making it one of the greatest in its category.
What makes this series so unique is how it transports you back to your elementary school years with its vibrant cast and actual events.
You nearly feel as though you’re back in high school with the characters. Another aspect of the characters that I like is their love connections. Love and romance are two very strong subjects that should never be constrained by the normal tropes seen in most television programs these days.
‘Tsurezure Children delves into the complexities of love and relationships by demonstrating that a romantic narrative does not always have a clear ending.
Despite the seriousness and drama surrounding the relationships, the program is quite frivolous and takes a somewhat gimmicky approach to the overarching narrative.
The comedy emerges organically and is built up in the most subtly humorous manner possible rather than being crammed down the viewer’s throat.
Studio Gokumi does an excellent job with the anime’s gorgeous aesthetics while yet capturing the spirit of each of its topics. The animation technique is basic, yet it brings out the best in the characters’ personalities and emotions.
The more you watch the program, the more you realize how well the animation and graphics suit the show’s themes.
Overall, ‘Tsurezure Children’ is a must-see for everyone who appreciates romantic comedies of any kind. Despite the inevitable obstacles, it exemplifies how an anime should be adapted from its original material.
While the anime’s plot sometimes falls short, the quirky depiction of the characters more than compensates. If you’re having a rough day and need to divert your attention, tune into this anime and watch as everything else melts away.
