There’s always a bit of confusion regarding Top Boy. Still, whether you think we’re four seasons into the original or two seasons into the Netflix continuation, the result is the same: the story ends.
And boy, do they have big plans for their last season. So, what’s next for the characters and the plot? What do they have in mind? When exactly will we be able to see it?
Here is everything you need to know about season five of Top Boy.
Top Boy Season 5: Potential Release Date
As of April 2023, there is still no official date for when the last episodes of Top Boy will come out other than this year.
There were rumors that the show’s final season was delayed because of disagreements about how to make it. However, in an interview with Metro, Netflix set the record straight.
“Producers Cowboy Films, Easter Partisan, and Netflix put the final season of Top Boy on hold while discussing how to finish it,” a spokesperson said.
“Work on the show has started again and will come out in 2023 as planned.”
Based on how things are going with the series right now, we might not see it until early 2023. We’ll let you know as soon as we know anything for sure.
Plot Details Of Top Boy Season 5
Well, one thing is for sure: someone will light up. Last season, there was too much betrayal for there not to be any consequences.
Sully’s actions likely caused him and Dushane to fight again. The plan was for Dushane to retire when he gave Jamie control of the drug business. Now that Sully has thrown out that plan, Dushane probably won’t take it lying down.
Unless, of course, he is lying down because his anxiety made him unable to move during season four. Dushane’s mental health could be an issue in the future, which will be a different problem for him.
When we talk about revenge, the look Sully gave Jamie’s youngest brother Stef was telling. It was a long look in which Sully’s sadness and guilt replaced Stef’s confusion, shock, and maybe even a sense of resolution. It’s not too much of a stretch to think that schoolboy Stef and bookworm Aaron, Jamie’s other brother, might want to settle that.
It will be interesting to see what Aaron does now that he is the primary provider and is in charge of taking care of Stef. Will he drop out of college and live on the streets like Jamie? Season 5 is the only way to know.
Jamie’s brothers aren’t the only ones who are mad at her, and Jaq’s sister Lauryn will probably have to watch out for her. You might think killing her abusive, controlling ex-boyfriend Curtis (Howard Charles) would get her out of danger.
No way: Curtis looks like a lapdog compared to his sister Vee. A deranged lapdog, but still. There is no way she wouldn’t get revenge for her brother’s death, whom she loved very much.
Hocking told Digital Spy about her character’s journey during season four: “I think what she’s going through would put anyone to the test. I think the most fantastic thing about her, for me as an actor who gets to play her, is that she never gives up. She keeps going and going, even to the point where, as you said, she is just about to break.
“It just shows how strong a mother or someone who will be a mother is. Isn’t it true that moms will do anything for their kids? That’s what she does. So I think it was beautiful that you could do that.”

She also said: “I just thought about my mum, who loves me so much. I love her so much! She would go out of her way to help me. So I told myself, “Okay, I need to channel that here.”
When asked if she thought Lauryn could move on from what happened in Season 4, Hocking said:
“I think it’s a very hard question. I’ve never been in her situation, but from what I can tell, when things are as bad as they have been for her, you have to try to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“My character is, of course, pregnant. I’d like to think for Lauryn and hope that the birth of her child and everything she’s fought for to get to this point will, in a way, make everything worth it and bring her happiness. Who knows, though?”
We don’t have a crystal ball, but we feel that Lauryn’s happily ever after might have to wait until she deals with Vee, who wants to kill everyone. I hope she still has a little bit more to give.
We know that Dushane’s girlfriend Shelley has at least one skeleton in her closet that could come out.
She has been able to hide that her ex-boyfriend killed someone now by digging up the body and getting rid of it. But her blackmailer, who is the ex-girlfriend of the person she is trying to get money from, could ruin things for her in the next season by telling everyone her secret.
Since this is the last season, all bets are off, and we don’t know who will run Summerhouse Estate besides Jamie. Jamie, you’re out.
Dushane thought about leaving everything behind at the end of Season 4, but Walters says it’s not that simple. In an interview with Digital Spy that was just for them, he said:
“I don’t think he really wants to leave the streets. I played it with that in mind that he’s saying it. In an ideal world, that would be great, but I think he’s so used to that way of life and has so much money and power because of it.”
He added: “Now, it’s all about that control. It’s not about the things we have. You know, it’s in him to be in charge of his surroundings and to have power. I think that’s what keeps him going. So it would be hard for him to leave.”
Top Boy Season 5 Cast: Who’s Back In Top Boy Season 5?
Dushane, played by Ashley Walter, and Sully, played by Kane Robinson, made it through another season without or almost without getting hurt. At least neither of them died. So we think they will come back. We can’t promise anything about whether or not they’ll make it to the end, though.
But it’s implausible that Jamie (Michael Ward) would have lived after Sully shot him in the head, so I think it’s safe to say that we’ve seen the last of him.
Jamie’s best friend Kit (Kadeem Ramsay), who Jamie shot, will also not be back for another season. Ats, Stef’s best friend, was found dead in the middle of season four. This seems to be the wrong time for best friends.
We do, however, expect the following to come back:
• Shelley (Little Simz)
• Jaq (Jasmine Jobson)
• Aaron (Hope Ikpoku Jr)
• Stef (Araloyin Oshunremi)
• Lauryn (Saffron Hocking)
• Becks (Adwoa Aboah)
• Lizzie (Lisa Dwan)
• Ruben (Theo Ogundipe)
Pebbles (Erin Kellyman) and Vee (Ava Brennan) will probably return.
Also, two big names have joined the group: Barry Keoghan from “Eternals” and Brian Gleeson from “Peaky Blinders” agreed to be in the upcoming episodes.
But we don’t know much about them yet. But you don’t bring in star power if you don’t plan to use it, do you?
Ra’Nell Smith, played by Malcolm Kamulete, has been a mystery since the second season of Top Boy. The character was one of the essential parts of the original Channel 4 show, but he hasn’t been seen since Netflix picked up the show, and there’s been no explanation on-screen about what happened to Smith.
In a recent interview, showrunner Ashley Walters was asked if fans could expect a resolution or a return in the last season. Walters told Radio Times, “No, Malcolm wasn’t coming back.” He said that Malcolm was a great addition to the cast and one of the show’s original members but that the actor “had other things he wanted to do with his life.”
“So I’m sorry to say that I can ruin this for the fans,” he said. “Ra’Nell isn’t going to come back.”
