‘The Society’ has been canceled for season two.
Netflix stated on July 9th, 2019, that ‘The Society’ would be renewed. In the absence of a firm release date from Netflix, Deadline Hollywood reported on April 2 that the show will return in late 2020. The anticipation for the new season was palpable among the fans.
As a result, Netflix announced on August 21, 2020, that the show has been canceled (courtesy: Deadline Hollywood).
The reason behind the cancellation of ‘The Society’.
While the show’s production was first put on hold as a result of the COVID-19 scare, it was expected to pick back up shortly after. Even the cast indicated that they were preparing for their return to the workplace. Netflix may have changed its mind because of the COVID problem, which may have increased the production costs.
According to Netflix, “We’ve made the difficult choice not to move forward with the second seasons of The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This.” Netflix said to Deadline Hollywood.
According to Deadline Hollywood, there was a lot of “uncertainty about production schedules and the balance of the availability of a large cast like The Society, coupled with unforeseen budget rises owing to COVID.”

The potential storyline for the second season of “The Society”
So far, we’ve learned a little more about how The Society’s universe came to be after the first season ended, but there are still some unanswered concerns. We also saw how the primary cast of characters is now working together to make the best of their dreadful position. According to the events of the first season, the coup was a success, and Allie and Will were ousted from their positions as leaders. Lexie is leading the revolution, but it’s not obvious if she’s ready to assume leadership roles.
There are a number of hypotheses to consider when it comes to the larger, more pressing problems. This could be an alternate world theory, or it could be the result of an experiment. All those hypotheses clash with one another, of course. A few examples of evidence that supports the other universe theory include the solar eclipse occurring at the wrong time. Neither the cause of the fragrance nor the fact that a coin doesn’t land on heads was examined. We can only presume that Cassandra fabricated the results of the coin toss.
What can we expect?
Scenes depicting a younger generation of children and people who are still alive were also shown. Characters and their connections should continue to grow as we approach towards Season 2. Showrunner Chris Keyser says season 2 will put a heavy emphasis on the awful trio. The subject of what happens if people who are completely unsuitable for politics are given the opportunity to run for office and succeed is “interesting—and quite timely,” says Keyser. In this regard, we have a solid idea of what season 2 will be all about.
Keyser claimed that the second season would focus more on socioeconomic class and race issues in the same interview with Hollywood Reporter. Despite the fact that this season focuses on men vs women, “I believe you can anticipate that dialogue about class and race to continue,” Keyser said. There are no “givens” in a world without them. In time, and if we’re lucky enough to obtain a second season, we hope to investigate all the social contract questions that we take for granted.”
Campbell, played by Toby Wallace, says he won’t be in charge for long in season two. A change in power and an alteration in the relationships between characters, such as Toby’s with Elle and others, are possibilities given the show’s ending. “As effective as Campbell’s quest for power appears to be, I believe he will fail at some point.”
