The Boys was renewed for a fourth season by Amazon Prime in the middle of season three.
The Boys’ third season premiered on June 3, 2022. Because a new episode is released each week, Amazon executives have already confirmed that a new season is on the way.
We have little information about the upcoming season because we only have the confirmation. Here’s everything we know about The Boys season four so far.
The Boys Season 4 renewed for 2023
CULVER CITY, CA – June 10, 2022 – Following the explosive premiere of its third season, Prime Video today announced that it has officially ordered a fourth season of its hit Emmy-nominated series The Boys, co-produced with Sony Pictures Television.
Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher on the show, hinted that production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The Boys Season 4 Premiere Date
We currently do not have a release date. In reality, we don’t expect the show to premiere this year, 2022, or even next year at this time. According to reports, the production of “The Boys” takes 14 to 15 months. Leaving aside the pandemic year, which halted everything, there should be a 14-15 month gap between the third and fourth series.
In that light, we believe that September 2023 is the ideal release date for “The Boys Season 4.” Amazon is expected to maintain the weekly format of the releases, as requested by the author, Erik Kripke. Someone posted a review of what Season 4 entails, and it has turned out to be nothing more than speculation.
The cast of “The Boys” is currently in Canada and is set to begin filming on August 22. So, the shoot has recently begun and will conclude in March 2023. According to Entertainment Weekly, post-production work will begin in April and last 6-8 months. That means the show will not be able to premiere before September to November 2023.

The Boys Season 4 Plot
We have some ideas based on major revelations in Season Three’s finale. First, there’s Ryan between Billy the Butcher and Homeland. Ryan (the son of Homelander and Butcher’s ex-wife Becca) chooses Homelander over Butcher in the finale. But the boy’s fate remains unknown—or, to put it another way, will he be corrupted? Ryan is one of many people who watch in delight, with a smile on his face, as Homelander murders a Starlight supporter in broad daylight in the previous episode.
Given that Butcher promised Becca that he would keep Ryan safe, there is still so much more to be discovered in this area—especially since Butcher now has only 18 months to live. Fortunately for us, the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, has revealed details about the plot of the upcoming season.
“A lot of the season will be a battle over Ryan,” he explained to E! News, “because if Homelander ends up raising and influencing the kids, it’s basically a second Homelander with apocalyptic stakes.”
However, Homeland murdering a Starlight fan in front of adoring fans who cheered is also set to be a major plot line. Insider spoke with Kripke about the moment and its significance for the upcoming season: “It’s a hint of one of our big themes in Season Four, which is society as a whole is fracturing into these two factions and no one’s listening to each other and the threat of violence just gets worse and worse every day,” he explained, “and it’s an appetizer of what all these superheroes are going to do to society in season four.”
The Boys Season 4 Cast
While so many characters were on the verge of death in The Boys’ season three finale, only one died prematurely. We’re talking about Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), who won’t be back for another season after Homelander ripped out his guts (Antony Starr).

Though Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve did not die prematurely, it is unclear whether or not McElligott will reprise the role. Her character arc appears to have concluded (more on that below), but we hope to see her on the call sheet again.
The following cast members are expected to appear in The Boys season 4:
