‘The Black Phone’ Confirm Release Date: Everything We Know About Ethan Hawke’s New Movie

The Black Phone is not for those who are easily offended. The upcoming feature is a mash-up of genres, with some obvious horror elements such as jump scares, ghosts, and terrifying masks, but also a strong thriller tone, as the protagonist, 13-year-old Finney Shaw, has a limited time limit to escape from a kidnapper before becoming another victim of the killer. Both the horror and thriller elements in this film are certain to get audiences’ hearts pounding in the theatre.

The Black Phone is adapted from Joe Hill’s 2004 short film of the same name. Ethan Hawke, who also played in Derrickson’s 2013 film Sinister, portrays a serial killer named “The Grabber” who carries a heavy legend akin to other horror icons such as Pennywise – Hawke apparently disregarded his “no villain” rule to play the character. Additionally, the picture stars Mason Thames as Finney, Madeleine McGraw as Finney’s sister Gwen, and James Ransone as Max, another Derrickson regular.
