The final portion of the show is about Jinshi’s battles with a cunning official, whom Maomao eventually identified as Lakan. Despite this disclosure, Maomao says nothing. Later, when Jinshi asks more questions after Lakan talks about a smart, fondly recalled courtesan, the tension rises. By implying that he wants to acquire her, Lakan is teasing the audience with dark details.
