The late 28-year-old musician was best known for being a member of the rap group Migos.
Takeoff, a member of the Atlanta-based hip-hop group Migos, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning in downtown Houston, the rapper’s lawyer said.
“Not only was Takeoff a great musician with a lot of talent, but he was also a very kind and gentle person. In a statement, attorney Drew Findling said, “He will be greatly missed now and always.”
The rapper, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, and he was 28 years old, was shot and killed outside a bowling alley where he and his bandmate Quavo, who was 31, went to a private party.
Police said that when they got to 810 Billiards & Bowling shortly after 2:30 a.m., they found a man who had been shot in the head or neck and was already dead. The source said that there were between 40 and 50 people at the scene when the shooting happened and that two people in unknown conditions were taken to nearby hospitals.
A police spokesperson said that security guards in the area heard the shooting but did not see who did it. No one has been taken into custody yet.
Takeoff, along with Quavo and Offset, was a member of the group Migos. The rap group was formed in 2008 in Lawrenceville, a suburb of Atlanta. They had four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Bad and Boujee,” which was nominated for a Grammy in 2016. “Culture,” “Culture II,” and “Culture III” are the three top-selling albums they put out.
Takeoff and Quavo released their new album “Only Built for Infinity Links” earlier this month. Offset was not on the album. Offset is married to the rapper Cardi B. In 2019, he put out a solo album.
