During Steam Next Fest, players can try out a wide range of secret games for free, giving them a look into the future of gaming. Let’s enjoy the top 10 game demos from Steam Fest.

1. Davigo

VR is usually considered its own platform, even though it includes PC, tablet, and mobile gear. But in Davigo, VR and PC come together, at least in the same game. Four PC players run and swing around, shooting rockets at a VR player who is a giant “boss” trying to grab them and throw them into space.

Even though it’s mostly just an idea, it is amazing. The short play sessions remind me of Attack on Titan, but the real draw is that you don’t need VR gear to join in on the fun. -Michael Crider

2. Viewfinder

In this spiritual sequel to Superliminal, you can change the world by bringing things from photos into the real world. The twist is that the 3D things look real-sized from your 2D point of view, which can be very confusing. (It’s hard to explain in words, so watch the movie.) Fans of puzzles who like to think outside the box will like Viewfinder. -Michael Crider

3. Venba

Want something cozy and warm? Then this cooking game might be just what you’re looking for. You’ll spend your time learning about Venba, an Indian mother who moved to Canada in the 1980s with her husband. You can expect to learn something about cooking while playing this beautiful story-driven game with graphics as tasty as the meals you make.

4. En Garde

In En Garde, you play ’90s-era Antonio Banderas Zorro. Okay, you’re not a Californian. You’re Spanish—instead, a royal lady is kicking butt in a city that an evil duke has taken over. Careful, parry-heavy fighting relies on using the surroundings to control crowds while making jokes that the Dread Pirate Roberts would like. Check out if you want a game with deep fighting techniques and a fun setting.

5. Let’s Revolution

What if Minesweeper had a story and more complicated strategies than “count the adjacent tiles”? Let’s Revolution does this by having you use special moves and skills to get rid of enemies in a secret grid. It’s a fun mix of puzzles and turn-based fighting, and the cute 2D art style will feel right at home for fans of Steven Universe. -Michael Crider

6. Cosmic Steam: A Journey Among Shadows

In this Metroidvania game, with a big difference between light and dark; the dark is surprisingly cozy and comfortable. You start in the middle of an almost entirely dark cave, with only a few bright spots to guide you. With everything so dark, you must pay much more attention to where you’re going, especially since the game is hard to control. In such darkness, exploring is a much more powerful experience. -Alaina Yee

7. Stray Gods

Point-and-click adventures will always be around. But it will keep happening repeatedly, like in this game where you sing instead of click. You play Grace, a young singer thrown into an urban dream where the Greek gods are real…think she just killed her last inspiration.

8. Jumplight Odyssey

As far as I know, a game based on the famous anime Starblazers (also known as Space Battleship Yamato) has never been launched outside Japan. Jumplight Odyssey tries to change that by giving you control of a spaceship that looks familiar as it runs away from the Gamilon alien force that destroyed your homeworld. This game is a mix of Evil Genius and FTL. Get it if you want some anime-style space opera and handling of resources. -Michael Crider

9. An Everyday Story

In this puzzle platformer, three toys help tell the story of an everyday family. You can play as an origami bat, a tin soldier, or a wooden boat and move through known places while the announcer tells you more about the people who live there.

Even though the controls are a little stiff and the camera angle is fixed (both of which could be fixed before the final release), An Everyday Story has an appealing warm vibe.

10. Ebenezer And The Invisible World

This game is a simple Metroidvania. This movie has Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol in it. I’d make a joke, but I can’t think of anything sillier than what the story is about. You jump around Dickensian London as the famously old and creaky miser Scrooge, hitting ghosts and union-busters with a cane and moonwalking like Alucard in Symphony of the Night. Aside from the jokes, it has beautiful hand-drawn animation and beautiful scenery.
