The television series Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon’s ongoing novel series of the same name. Ronald D. Moore created the show, which premiered on Starz on August 9, 2014. Caitriona Balfe plays Claire Randall, a married former Second World War military nurse in Scotland who is transported back in time to 1743 in 1945. She meets, falls in love with, and marries Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a charming Highland warrior from Gabaldon’s fictitious Clan Fraser of Lovat, and joins the Jacobite rebellion.
The television series’ 16-episode first season (released in two half-seasons) is based on the first novel in the series, Outlander (known as Cross Stitch in the United Kingdom). The second season of 13 episodes based on Dragonfly in Amber aired from April to July 2016. The 13-episode third season, based on Voyager, aired from September to December 2017. Drums of Autumn inspired the fourth season’s 13 episodes, which aired from November 2018 to January 2019. Season 5 of 12 episodes based on The Fiery Cross aired from February to May 2020. The show has been renewed for a sixth season of eight episodes.
Outlander Season 7 Release Date:
Outlander Season 7 has yet to receive an official release date. Caitriona Balfe revealed during a season 6 interview with Digital Spy that they would be filming the next season for 13 months, which would take us up to May 2023. We can expect episodes soon after that, and Deadline reports that they could arrive as early as the end of this year.
How many episodes are in Outlander season 7?
The seventh season will be quite lengthy, with a total of 16 episodes! Seasons 6 and 7 of Outlander were supposed to have 12 episodes each. However, due to pandemic concerns and the real-life pregnancy of leading lady Caitriona Balfe, the sixth season was cut to eight episodes. Season 7 now includes the four missing episodes.

The storyline of Outlander season 7
The events of Season 7 will be inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s seventh novel, An Echo in the Bone. It’s unclear which parts of that novel will be adapted in Season 7, but consider that Season 5’s storyline was inspired by Gabaldon’s sixth book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. So it’s possible that Outlander Season 6 will also draw from Diana Gabaldon’s seventh book.
