Even before Wednesday came out fans were amazed by how well Jenna Ortega played the title character. This was based on the promotional material for the show. Even though Wednesday Addams is a well-known character Ortega did a great job of giving her a new twist. Even though Ortega is a great Wednesday Addams for this generation, there were some creative decisions made on the set that made her role even better.
In a new tweet, Netflix said that director Tim Burton came up with Wednesday’s unblinking stare when she talks to other characters. This makes most people feel uncomfortable. The streamer posted a video of Wednesday’s first meeting with Tyler in the café and wrote, “After trying one take where she didn’t blink, Tim Burton was so happy with the result that he told Jenna Ortega to never blink again when playing Wednesday. So, she didn’t.”
Every generation has had its share of the Addams family and every time the Goth girl has been portrayed, it has changed the people who saw it. Burton and Ortega gave the main character of the Netflix show an edge and showed an emotional side of her on purpose making it a first-of-its-kind version.
Whether it’s the costumes, the choice to give her bangs, or the fact that she doesn’t blink, Ortega did a great job of making this version her own. In a previous interview, Ortega said that she never talked about her character with Christina Ricci, who played the character in a previous version of the movie. “I didn’t feel like bringing up something she did 30 years ago. Ortega said, “I didn’t want to take advantage of her, and I also didn’t want to be too much like her.”
In the new series, fans go on a magical ride with the main character as she learns the secrets of her new school, Nevermore Academy. She also has to deal with the problems that come with being an “outcast” in a school full of them. The show also gives us a fresh new look at the Addams family when Wednesday finds out new secrets about her parents that have been bothering them since they lived at Nevermore.
Morticia and Gomez Addams, who are Wednesday’s famous parents, are played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, respectively. Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, and Rikki Lindhome are just some of the other actors who give great performances.
On Netflix, you can watch all of the episodes of Wednesday. Here are some interesting facts:
