With the release of Justice League: The Snyder Cut, fans are wondering if and when a Man of Steel 2 will be released. In fact, many people aren’t even sure if Warner Bros. has ever given this movie the green light in the first place.
The Man of Steel sequel will arrive in theaters twelve years after Henry Cavill was cast to play Superman. Up until this point, Cavill has been heavily involved with “Mission Impossible 7” which meant that it was not possible for him to reprise his role as Superman in “Shazam.”
The performance of Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel might have been more positive than the box office numbers for Batman vs. Justice League, but that hasn’t changed Warner Bros plans on any sequels: they’re going to stay silent and not follow through with anything. However, the actor does not want to give up his iconic role yet.
Henry Cavill is Still Superman
In an interview with Men’s Health, Cavill said: “I have not given up on the role. There is plenty more to explore with Superman. I want to connect with his humanity and highlight some of the deeper truths of this character. I care about that a lot. There is still so much justice to do for Superman.”
Though I’ve refused to give up the role, I have a lot more work to do for Superman. There is plenty of storytelling left to be done and real deep honesty that needs exploring in the character which will be reflected in the comic book version. It’s imperative, and it falls on Superman. There is a lot of justice to be done for him. Henry Cavill appears to have confirmed his role.
Henry Cavill has said he is happy to keep playing Superman and would love to portray the character for years to come.
It’s such a great character. Being Superman is a responsibility I’m glad to have and hope that in years from now, I become Superman more often.
New Superman Reboot
Warner Bros. has yet to confirm whether they will bring back actor Henry Cavill for the sequel of Man of Steel, but there is a new Superman reboot in the works written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars).
There is no mention in the announcement of who will be playing Superman. However, Henry Cavill seems like an obvious choice, and studios have not announced otherwise. From a safe guess, it seems unlikely that Henry Cavill will appear in this version of The Man of Steel.
