Made In Abyss Plot
The drama is set in a fictitious world and centers on Riko, a young orphaned girl who resides in the Belchero Orphanage in the mythical town of Orth.
By chance, the town is positioned on the rim of a strange and gigantic hole in the ground known as the Abyss, which extends deep into the earth.
The Abyss, located deep under the earth, is home to the ruins of a long-forgotten civilization and is the goal of “Cave Raiders” — adventurers who journey deep into the Abyss in search of old civilization’s artifacts and riches.
The trek to and from the Abyss, however, is not straightforward — the majority of individuals who enter the Abyss get a strange disease that has the potential to kill, and the ailment’s symptoms become greater the further one travels within.
The disease dubbed the “Curse of the Abyss” has claimed several lives throughout the years. Despite the dangers, cave raiders continue to go into the Abyss to pursue riches, and those who excel acquire the renowned title of White Whistle.

Lyza, Riko’s mother, was one of these White Whistles but vanished when Riko was a child. After growing up in an orphanage without her mother, Riko aspires to be like her and go on beautiful and perilous adventures in the Abyss.
Riko discovers a humanoid robot resembling a human kid one day and calls him Reg. Reg immediately becomes a part of Riko’s close-knit gang once she adopts him and secretly takes him inside Belchero.
Riko’s life, however, takes a severe turn immediately after this tragedy. One day, a balloon rises from the Abyss, holding notes regarding Lyza’s findings and a letter from Lyza to Riko.
The letter informs Riko that Lyza is waiting for her at the bottom of the Abyss, and as soon as she reads it, she immediately sets her sights on locating her mother. Riko, therefore, departs from her pals and sinks into the Abyss’s depths.
