Due to back surgery, Randy Orton has been absent from WWE broadcasts since May of 2022. With this fresh medical news, the likelihood of the WWE legend’s return is greatly diminished.
Legendary Wrestler Bob Orton is worried about his son’s health. Through Bill Apter of Sportskeeda (hat tip: WrestlingNews.co), he discussed Orton’s current situation, implying that his injuries could lead to retirement.
We’ll see what happens with him now that he’s in training. Although Orton cannot say for certain whether or not his client wants to return to work, he does believe that it is possible. However, he is really well cared for. In my opinion, he doesn’t have to. The physicians, I believe, have advised against it.
“He’s training, so we’ll see what happens. I don’t know if he feels like going back or if he feels like he’s ready to go back, I think he might,” Orton said. “Then again, he’s pretty well taken care of. I don’t think he needs to. I think the doctors have told him not to.”

Training indicates Orton is considering a comeback to the ring and that his back is recovering well. But he isn’t even close to being ready for wrestling yet. It may be difficult for Orton to return to the boxing ring if physicians have advised against it. Daniel Bryan, Edge, and Paige aren’t the first wrestlers who meet a similar end. How Did Randy Orton Get Injury?
Since November 2020, Orton has been unable to play due to a back issue. It has been stated that he had lower back fusion surgery, which will keep him out of commission for quite some time. Recent medical tests showed that Orton is not yet well enough to return to WWE, and his father’s disclosure has cast questions on whether or not he ever will.
When Randy Orton last competed on SmackDown, he and Matt Riddle, as Team RK-BRO, were involved in a unification match for the tag titles. Where they were defeated by the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Usos. The Usos and Roman Reigns savagely attacked Orton after the bout, injuring him for dramatic effect.
However, Orton Jr. remarked that his son’s will to return is indicative of the mentality of many wrestlers who struggle to retire before they believe their time has come. Wrestling is so much fun when you go in there and the crowd starts going nuts. It’s difficult to leave, he remarked. In other words, “Randy will do what Randy is gonna do, as he always does.”
