Based on an occurrence in the life of the series’ creator and actress Michaela Coel, ‘I May Destroy You’ follows Arabella Essiedu (Coel), a former Twitter superstar turned writer, as she attempts to piece together her fragmented memories of the night of her sexual assault.
The program covers sexual consent, gender identity, equality, and trauma skillfully and sensitively while remaining loyal to its humorous origins. However, that is not to say that the program cannot be gloomy at times, bordering on nihilism.
Since the show’s inception, it has amassed a sizable audience on both sides of the Atlantic. With a season-ending reminiscent of ‘The Sopranos,’ fans are eager to see whether there will be a second season. What we do know about it is as follows.
I May Destroy You Season 2 Release Date
‘I May to Destroy You’ Season 1 debuted on HBO on June 7, 2020, and finished on August 24, 2020, after the broadcast of 12 episodes.
Although BBC One premiered the program a day after HBO, it completed the season more than a month ahead of the rival network on July 20, 2020. Additionally, the season is accessible on BBC iPlayer and HBO Max.

The finale of ‘I May Destroy You’ season 1 leaves a lot to the audience’s imagination, leaving the door open for a season 2, at least in the imaginations of the show’s fans. However, Harriet Webb, who plays Theo in the program, believes the likelihood of this happening is pretty remote.
“I have never discussed it [a second series] with Michaela. “I accepted it as a piece of art in its current state,” she said to the Metro. “It’s an intriguing one since it’s not your typical setup for a series. Certainly not. What I find most intriguing is that people have developed an attachment to the characters and want to see more of them.”
Additionally, she said she would be astonished if it occurred but added that “everything is conceivable.”
As for Coel, she delivered a pretty mysterious response to The Hollywood Reporter when questioned about the series’ future. “I don’t want to give anything away,” she said. However, I believe that after you watch the last episode, you will understand.”
That response is as unclear as to the season finale. In any case, one thing is certain: She will not return to work immediately. She said in the same interview that she was taking a break and would spend time with her friends and family. It implies that even if a second season of ‘I May Destroy You’ is developed, it will not be released until 2022.
I May Destroy You Season 2 Plot
The season conclusion, ‘Ego Death,’ begins with Arabella noticing and recognizing David at the same nightclub where she was drugged and sexually raped. The program then proceeds to present four alternate occurrences sequences.
The first possibility is one in which she exacts flawless vengeance. Seeing that he has no recollection of her, she dupes him into thinking she may be his next victim before drugging and assaulting him with the assistance of her companions.
She then drags his prone and bloodied body back to her apartment and stuffs it under her bed. In the second scenario, she meets David while dressed in the same wig and clothing she wore that fatal night.
David soon disintegrates when confronted with the repercussions of his actions, crying and pleading for Arabella’s forgiveness. This time, she leads a very aware David to her flat, where they exchange hugs before the arrival of the police.

Though the location remains the bar, the following scenario occurs during the day. In this scenario, Arabella is not seeking vengeance. She sincerely cares for David.
They eventually find up to her place, where they have consensual sex. It concludes with David departing with her consent and his bloodied corpse from scenario 1 following suit.
In the final scenario, Arabella does not go to the bar, preferring to watch TV programs with her roommate. Later in the film, she is shown publishing her second book.
Arabella has catharsis in the first three situations, whether via violence (first), admittance (second), or equality (third) (third). The fourth scenario, possibly the most realistic, becomes cathartic for her in its entirety, allowing her to go on.
The series concludes on an Italian beach, implying that she is pursuing a relationship with Biagio. Expect this to be handled effectively in the next season. The next season may also focus on Kwame and Tyrone’s blossoming relationship.
