A second trailer for House of the Dragon has arrived, hinting at the upcoming bloody Targaryen civil war.

King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) sits on the Iron Throne, but his wicked brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), his daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and his daughter Lady Alicent Hightower are all vying for control of who should succeed him (Olivia Cooke).

House of the Dragon appears to be a worthy successor to Game of Thrones, with dragons, violence, swords, and dark conspiracies.

Everything you need to know about House of the Dragon is right here.

House of the Dragon Release Date Information

House of the Dragon will be released on August 21, 2022.

Fans will be ecstatic to learn that it is now only a matter of months until we return to George RR Martin’s world.

We also know where the 10-episode series will air in the United Kingdom. Sky Atlantic, the same channel that aired Game of Thrones, has extended its agreement with HBO following the announcement of House of the Dragon. Of course, the show will also be available on NOW.

To catch up, watch Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 on Amazon Prime today or when it becomes available NOW. Seasons 1-8 DVD box sets are also available on Amazon for £99.99.

What is the story of House of the Dragon?

The Targaryen Civil War, also known as the Dance of Dragons, will be the focus of the prequel. This conflict erupted after two rival claimants for the Iron Throne emerged from different branches of the Targaryen family, resulting in a bloody clash of men, women, and dragons.

“For what it’s worth, those who have read Fire & Blood will realize it contains enough material for a dozen shows,” said Game of Thrones author George RR Martin.

“I can guarantee there will be dragons.” “Everyone else has said it, so why shouldn’t I?”

While the plot details are still being worked out, we do know that the Targaryen family will be prominent throughout.

“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said following the show’s announcement. We’re excited to discover the origins of House Targaryen and the early days of Westeros with Miguel, Ryan, and George.”

Meanwhile, Olivia Cooke claims that the current script differs from the first draught she saw years ago because writers toned down scenes involving violence against women.

Game of Thrones writers and directors faced backlash after scenes featuring Emilia Clarke’s dragon queen character Daenerys Targaryen were brutally raped by Jason Momoa’s Khal Drogo.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable being a part of anything that has just egregious graphic violence against women for no reason whatsoever, just because they want it to be tantalizing in a way that gets viewers,” Cooke told The Telegraph.

“I was fortunate enough to read the script before, and it has changed significantly since the first few seasons” (of Game of Thrones). “I don’t think they’d be sane enough to include any of that anymore.”

The cast of House of the Dragon

The main cast members of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon have been confirmed.

  • King Viserys I Targaryen is played by Paddy Considine.
  • Matt Smith in the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen
  • Eve Best in the role of Princess Rhaenys Velaryon
  • Ser Criston Cole is played by Fabien Frankel.
  • Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is played by Emma D’Arcy.
  • Lady Alicent Hightower is played by Olivia Cooke.
  • Lord Corlys Velaryon is played by Steve Toussaint.
  • Mysaria is played by Sonoya Mizuno.
  • Ser Otto Hightower is played by Rhys Ifans.
  • Below are character descriptions for each of these.

Unless the Night King or some Children of the Forest make an appearance, probably not.

The series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, so none of the characters we’ve grown to love will appear.

However, it’s possible that we’ll see the ancestors of the Starks, Lannisters, Baratheons, and other well-known families. Depending on how much ground is covered, we may also see Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys Targaryen, as hinted by early casting announcements, though this has not been confirmed.

And there is one familiar face we might see again – that of Aegon’s mount, Balerion the Black Dread, whose skull resided in the dungeons of King’s Landing for the majority of Game of Thrones, and who was “historically” ridden by King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) at one point. He may have a little more skin on his bones this time.

The first concept art for the show appeared to indicate that it will indeed live up to its name.

Who is the Makers of ‘the House of the Dragon’?

George RR Martin, the author of the original A Song of Ice and Fire book series on which Game of Thrones is based, has collaborated on the project with Ryan Condal, the creator of the sci-fi TV series Colony.

“[The series] has a script and a bible, and both are fantastic, first-rate, and exciting,” Martin says. “They’re Ryan Condal’s work.”

“He’s a fantastic writer who adores A Song of Ice and Fire, Dunk and Egg, and Westeros in general. I’ve enjoyed working with him, and if the Seven Gods and HBO are gracious, I hope to continue working with him on this new successor show for many years to come.”

Director Miguel Sapochnik, who has previously helmed prolific Game of Thrones chapters such as Battle of the Bastards and Winds of Winter, will also serve as co-showrunner with Condal and has been tapped to direct the first episode as well as several others.
