The Grinch’s blood-red Santa Claus coat isn’t the only crimson that’ll be seen this holiday season. The hairy green villain returns in XYZ Films’ new parody horror film, inspired by Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s story.
“The Mean One” reimagines the story of the infamous Grinch by sucking out all the childhood whimsy and replacing it with a gruesome storyline that results in piles of blood-stained snow.
It takes its title from the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” originally performed by Thurl Ravenscroft in the 1966 animated TV special “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”
“The Mean One,” a Grinch horror parody, will Premiere on December
Alex Williams, XYZ Films’ acquisitions manager, released a personal statement about the film and why it was such an easy sell for him. He stated:
“As a passionate fan of seasonal horror (and the ‘Terrifier’ franchise), ‘The Mean One’ is exactly the kind of film that lands on my personal ‘nice list.’ This movie is a stunningly great time with a ferociously subversive turn from David Howard Thornton — and XYZ Films is so proud to be bringing this soon-to-be iconic Christmas slasher to audiences this holiday season.”
While you might think this movie will come out in a couple of years, it actually comes out on December 15th of this year. That means you’ll have enough time to recover from your October horror bingeing before settling in with some hot cocoa to watch your childhood be slaughtered.
Synopsis
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: “The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump dressed as Santa Claus who lives on a mountain high above Newville and despises the holiday season. Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were murdered by The Mean One 20 Christmases ago, returns to town to seek justice… However, he is about to discover that this fiend with a heart two sizes too small is still eager to carve the roast beast.”
Fortunately for Terrifier fans, The Grinch will be played by none other than David Howard Thornton. Thornton, who played Art the Clown in the Terrifier films, is a modern horror icon for many. Despite being a clown, his imposing and unsettling presence is not to be laughed at.
