Cody Rhodes will face Brock Lesnar on May 27 at WWE Night of Champions, but he will not be at full strength. This week on Raw, The American Nightmare showed up with a kayfabe injury widely believed to be a broken arm.
Brock Lesnar Attack On Cody Rhodes
The video of Brock Lesnar’s vicious attack on Cody Rhodes backstage opened tonight’s WWE RAW. As his opponent entered the arena, the Beast ambushed him from behind, breaking his arm with what appeared to be a beer keg. After saying that Rhodes wouldn’t be able to attend, he subsequently announced an Open Challenge for Night of Champions.

After returning to challenge the 10-time world champion, the American Nightmare found himself trapped in a Kimura Lock; devastated viewers watched as Brock Lesnar seemed to break Cody’s arm live on TV. Even though Triple H wanted to call off the battle at Night of Champions, Rhodes was adamant about going through with it.
This Saturday’s scheduled match will go on as planned despite Brock Lesnar’s promises that he will hold an Open Challenge. That means the arm injury Cody Rhodes sustained was for show and not real. Scripted segments rarely feature real injuries, and Lesnar has faked many “broken” limbs on camera before.

Lesnar ‘broke’ Triple H’s arm on an episode of WWE RAW in April 2012. At SummerSlam, the Beast again shattered his arm and gave Shawn Michaels the same treatment. It was all an act to make Brock look bad and add some tension to the plot, as neither HBK nor The Game was seriously wounded.
Despite what happened on the final episode of WWE RAW, Cody Rhodes is still expected to appear at Night of Champions. However, the plot injury won’t help him at all. Thanks to the injured arm, Brock is favored to win the upcoming match, setting up a decisive rematch in August’s SummerSlam.
