Arthur the King Production
Originally, Baltasar Kormákur was set to direct, but he had to withdraw because of scheduling issues. Mark Wahlberg was cast in the lead role in July of 2019. The replacement of Kormákur with Simon Cellan Jones and the addition of Simu Liu Ali Suliman and Rob Collins to the cast were all announced in December 2020.
Paramount Players was initially connected as a distributor, but departed the project for unclear reasons and was replaced by Lionsgate in June 2020. Production was set to kick off in Puerto Rico that next fall. In December of that year, reports surfaced that Lionsgate had also dropped the movie.

Who is Simon Cellan Jones?
Arthur the King was directed by Simon Cellan Jones. Jones is a prolific TV director who has worked on some of the greatest series around, but he may not be well-known to cinema lovers because he has only directed a few feature-length movies (Some Voice, The One and Only, and Eroica in the early 2000s). Shows like Ballers, Jessica Jones, Bloodline, Treme, and Boardwalk Empire, to mention a few, are included in this category.
