Three-time IPL champions CSK are struggling to find their rhythm in this season of the format in the UAE.

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team kicked off on the right note, picking up a thrilling win over the defending champions MI in the first game of IPL 2020.

But ever since that first match, CSK have lost two of their consecutive matches against RR and DC.

It looks like there is a significant lack of balance in the CSK franchise.

Former Indian player, Irfan Pathan, in a recent chat on Star Sports Cricket Connected chat show pinpoints the reason for CSK’s struggles in the UAE.

What, According To Irfan Pathan, Has Been The Reason For The Downfall Of CSK This IPL Season?

Pathan said that what’s costing CSK the games is the fact that they did not include a backup in place of Suresh Raina. The absence of Raina has been a huge reason hampered the balance of the team.

Irfan says “For the first time it is looking that the Chennai Super Kings team is not settled. They had problems before the start of the IPL, Suresh Raina went back, and they have not taken a replacement for him till now,”

He adds by saying “Because of that there have been lot of problems in the team composition. If Suresh Raina had been batting at No.3, they could have played an extra bowler. Currently, they have only five bowlers. Kedar Jadhav not being bowled by MS Dhoni is also a cause of concern,”

Irfan says that the teams that are using an additional bowler in the IPL are looking more formidable.

So, MSD, instead of looking for a finisher, needs to make sure that he stays in the field for ten overs at the very least and include an extra bowler in the team.

Irfan believes once these two things will be sorted, CSK will find their mojo back.

This Friday, the CSK team will be facing off against SRH in IPL 2020.
