With Heartbreaking Instagram Message, Woman Follows Fatal Jump From Hudson Yards Vessel NY
A 24-year-old New York City woman jumped to her death from the Hudson Yards Vessel on Tuesday.
Yocheved Gourarie, of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, arranged an Instagram post to be written the next day, assuring strangers and loved ones alike: “I am no longer in pain.”
Last February, Peter DeSalvo, a 19-year-old from Somerset County, took a fatal fall from the iconic building.
Gourarie was a valedictorian of her graduating class at Shalhevet High School and later graduated with a perfect GPA from the highly selective Macauly Honors College at CUNY, Village Sun reports.
Condolences filled Gourarie’s Facebook profile. Also reminiscent of her as a “shining light” that “personified kindness, compassion, and empathy.”
An unwavering champion of mental health literacy, Gourarie was on her Instagram profile about her experiences with eating disorders. She didn’t get treatment for depression until recently, she added.
“If you’re reading this, I’m gone,” reads Gourarie’s final Instagram post, published Dec. 23.
She also added that everyone has made her confidence much fuller, brighter, and healthier than she might have been without them. Their love, their motivation, their embraces, their emails, their smiles, their messages, their stickers on memes that they think she’d find amusing.
“None of you could have done anything — or done more — to prevent this from happening. You all did your absolute best and for that, I am eternally grateful.
She also added that she hopes they can find some comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain.
“I love you,” she added.
