In a short statement, Pearl Shongwe’s family confirmed that she had died and asked for privacy while they deal with the sad news. The SABC’s website said that Kina Nhlengethwa, the business manager for Metro FM, said that Pearl’s family had confirmed the news.
The 35-year-old Shongwe died in her sleep, her family said. “The Shongwe family is very sad to tell you that our beloved daughter, Ntombifuthi Pearl Shongwe, died too soon. “She died in her sleep,” her family said in a statement, asking for privacy.
The official cause of her death has not been released yet, but it is thought that she was found dead in her Polo Fields home. “Metro FM newscaster Pearl Shongwe from the SABC has died. It’s thought that she died at her Polo Fields home north of Johannesburg,” said a tweet from SAfm.
Col. Kweza told TshisaLIVE in a short statement, “A 35-year-old woman was found dead today, and Midrand police have opened an inquest docket.” The inquest will help find out what caused the death.” Shongwe started her career in 2010 when she was hired as an entertainment reporter by the youth radio station YFM. She worked there for more than two years with youth pioneer and DJ Mo Flava.
The Miss Soweto finalist from 2011 worked hard to become one of the most well-known voices in the media. She read the news on SABC stations and hosted a talk show on TV.
She has worked on shows like SportsLIVE, Morning Live on weekends with Simphiwe Ncongwane, Daily Theta, and season 6 of SABC1’s One Day Leader, a show about young people learning how to lead. Friends and fans of the veteran TV and radio host have taken to social media to express their shock and sadness over his death.
