Vigil Season 2 Renewed at BBC: Everything We Know So Far

Entertainment

Even before it sped into our screens, there was little doubt Vigil would make a big splash. That’s not true at all. It went above everyone’s expectations and became the BBC’s most-watched new show since Bodyguard in 2018. The first episode of the series was watched by more than 13 million people over 30 days. The average number of viewers for the whole series was 12.6 million. It was made by World Productions, which has made both Line of Duty and Bodyguard, as well as a lot of other high-quality dramas (Save Me and The Pembrokeshire Murders, to name a few). You can tell these people know how to keep us watching. Then it was only a matter of time before it was confirmed that there was going to be a second season of Vigil on TV. But what will happen next? She was almost drowned while in action last time. Will Suranne Jones play again? How will someone get her back into the murky water? Everything you need to know is here.

Vigil Season 1 Recap: Ending Explained

Det Chief Inspector Amy Silva is sent to HMS Vigil, which is a ballistic missile submarine, to look into the death of a person on board. It happened soon after an unsolved disappearance of a Scottish fishing boat. It puts the police and MI5 (the British Security Service) in a fight because of her work. There are a lot of similarities between this story and the events of the Royal Navy submarine HMS Vigilant. During the show, Mhairi Finnea, a fictional trawler, was sunk by a Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine called HMS Trenchant in the Firth of Clyde. In 1990, the FV Antares was sunk by the same submarine. Families of the Antares’ crew were upset when they saw scenes of the Mhairi Finnea sinking. However, the BBC said that the drama was not based on or inspired by a real-life event.

Prentice saves Silva from the torpedo compartment, but Doward kills him. Doward also sabotages the submarine’s valves so that it starts to take in water. Walsh and other maintenance workers are able to stop the leak and get communication back up and running. Captain Newsome gets orders from the Admiralty and information about Doward from the Admiralty. To get Newsome to the surface and contact a Russian vessel, Doward takes Silva hostage so that Newsome will have to do that. Newsome quickly tilts the submarine up, which throws Doward off balance. Doward is overpowered by other crew members and arrested by Silva, who is in charge of the submarine. In front of the Chinese consulate, Oakley is arrested by Longacre and her team. He admits that he was an accomplice to the murder of Jade. Longacre and Silva meet up again when Silva returns to dry land. They go to Poppy. He tells MI5 that the plan was a PR stunt to make the Trident nuclear deterrent look bad. Shaw tries to get Cruden to believe the official story that a Russian submarine caused a fishing trawler to sink.

Vigil Season 2 Expected Release Date

As a good thing, Vigil will be back for a second season in March 2022. There isn’t much information about what is going on, so now we have to figure out when it will be back on our screens. Because filming hasn’t even begun, we’ll guess that we won’t see it until at least 2023. The more we find out, the better.

Vigil Season 2 Expected Cast

There were a lot of people who didn’t make it out alive at the end of season one. So, if you kill off Martin Compston (who played Craig Burke), you know that no one will be safe. There are three people who died at the end of the finale: Mark Prentice, Jade Antoniak, and Jackie Hamilton. That means they can’t come back, so they can’t be on the show again. That doesn’t mean Amy Silva will be back, though. Suranne Jones will be back as DCI Amy Silva, and Rose Leslie will be back as her lover, DS Kirsten Longacre. During the first chapter, petty officer Matthew Doward was alive and well, but now MI5 has him. We wouldn’t expect actor Lorne MacFadyen to play him again. At the end of season one, we have: There are a lot of people on the Vigil crew: Commander Neil Newsome, coxswain Elliot Glover, Tiffany Docherty, Lieutenant Simon Hadlow, CPO Gary Walsh, and CPO Tara Kierly, among others.

Rear Admiral Shaw (Stephen Dillane) and Lieutenant Commander Erin Branning (Erin Branning) are both Navy people (Lolita Chakrabarti) People who work for the police: DS Colin Porter (Gary Lewis) and DS Porter (Gary Lewis) (Reuben Joseph). You never know who might show up, either. But whether we’ll see any of those faces again depends on how season two’s story goes.

Vigil Season 2 Expected Plotline

Currently, there is no information about the plot of season two; however, we do know that the cast and crew will return to Scotland to film the show. Vigil is the name of the submarine on which the show was based, and Jones’ DCI Silva was sent down after a suspicious death occurred on board. However, according to writer Tom Edge, it appears like they will be relocating from the submarine to a more hospitable environment.

“We have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,” he told RadioTimes.com last year. “Some of the characters that we have developed as we’ve made it, they feel like characters that we’d love to burrow into. So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else, then certainly I would be up for it.” So it’s possible that the team will shift gears and divert attention away from the season one plot in favor of a character who was featured in the show but was not a significant character. Keep checking back here for changes, and we’ll notify you as soon as they become available.
