What is Virtual Reality?

Technology has come to the point where a computer can generate an environment so realistically that the user feels that they are actually in the world and interacting with their surroundings.

This is described as a virtual reality – because it appears so like life that it’s ‘real’, but it isn’t quite so; it’s a virtual experience.

The user experiences this reality via a specially adapted headset or helmet. For example, you can enter the world of motor racing via a VR headset and be part of the action in the pits.

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality is also a product of technology. With this version, though, it is not creating a ‘new’ (virtual) reality the user experiences. The basis is real-world objects that are enhanced by virtual elements. For example, via your phone camera or an AR camera, you can project elephants marching down your road or a tree growing in the middle of a house.

Using VR or AR on your site can give you an edge

Imagine this scenario: there you sit at home, alongside the pool, and you realize that the water isn’t looking quite clear. In fact, if you’re honest, the bottom and sides are quite dirty. Perhaps it’s time, you think, to investigate having the pool cleaned professionally.

How would that work, though? How much of an intrusion would it be in your life?

The next thing you’re experiencing having your pool cleaned professionally because you found a contractor whose VR experience online convinced you they would do it well.

How is that possible? With the use of AR or VR, of course. And your mobile. Your site must, then, be optimized so that it can be used on a mobile with everything available to the user.

Potential customers can learn as much about your product/service when they visit your site on their phones. What better way to do this than offering a VR ‘tour’ via which they can experience the product/service for themselves – almost in real life.

In addition to ensuring your site functions efficiently on a mobile, your SEO will need to optimize the site for VR. If you’re unfamiliar with the intricacies of SEO or need advanced tips to keep up with the evolving landscape, consider checking out this website.

AR and VR and your SEO rankings

The algorithms search engines use to work out the rankings during a search don’t recognize AR and VR as factors. However, what they offer can have an effect. They both increase the impact your site can have on your users. This is one of the factors considered when the rankings are done: part of the users’ experience.

In this way, AR and VR are important in relation to SEO and your position in the rankings during an online search.

Optimizing your site for VR

A feature of SEO on a website is finding the most relevant and useful keywords.

When it comes to choosing keywords as part of your SEO, it’s all about finding the right words or phrases There are three things to consider when choosing keywords:

  • They must (of course) relate to what your website is about and what you offer.
  • The keywords should be relevant to the area, discipline, or business you operate.
  • They must also be similar to keywords already high up in Google searches.

Another aspect of SEO is metadata, which search engines use to understand what your website is about.

When you add VR or AR to your website, you must use keywords and metadata related to points like what VR you are using, the genre of VR and the VR format. For example, if you offer a VR demonstration of the pool cleaning service, you could feature keywords and metadata such as ‘VR headset’ and ‘VR demonstration.’

You can also search the internet to find sites that feature VR and AR and find out what terms they are using.

The Future of VR, AR, and SEO

Soon enough, every website will feature AR and VR experiences, so you should get in on the ground floor (so to speak) and work on making sure that your SEO is relevant to these enhanced versions of reality.
