Sam Purcell’s Early Life
On October 5, 1979, Sam Purcell was born in Dalton, Georgia, in the United States. That’s where he only spent his early years. Bill Allen is his father, and his mother’s name is not available online.
He attended Southeast Whitfield High School for his final academic year before graduating from Auburn University in Montgomery with a bachelor’s degree.

Sam Purcell Career
When he completed his studies, then only he decided to become a coach. From 2000 to 2003, he worked as a student coach at Auburn University. Following that, he worked as Auburn’s administrative assistant and video coordinator from 2003 to 2005. He joined Tulsa in 2005 and served as assistant coach there until 2007. Following this, he worked at Georgia Tech from 2007 to 2009 as the video coordinator. From 2009 to 2013, he worked at Georgia Tech as an assistant coach.
From 2013 to 2017, he worked as Louisville’s assistant coach. In 2017–18, he was a major contributor to Louisville’s program-high 36-3 record. He also took over as Mississippi State’s head coach in 2022.
He had a fantastic experience with Louisville starting in 2013, and during that period, six players—six of whom were taken in the WNBA Draft—were chosen. He attended Georgia Tech for six seasons before moving to Louisville; he also attended Tulsa and Auburn.
He has climbed the ranks throughout the last approximately 19 years, starting as a student coach at Auburn and ending as an associate coach at Louisville, one of the best teams in the nation. The product of Dalton, Georgia, has studied under some of the best brains in women’s basketball during his career, including Jeff Walz, the head coach of Louisville right now.
