Andraya Carter’s Early Life and Playing Career
Carter’s birthplace is Flowery Branch, Georgia. Her basketball coach at Buford High School in Georgia, Gene Durden, was not only her teacher for the multimedia presentation class but also a well-known basketball player. She averaged 13 points per game while leading the Lady Wolves to three straight Class 2A state titles (2009–2011), making her one of the key players in their victories.
She suffered injuries that prevented her from playing her senior year. She nevertheless accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Team, while espnW.com listed her as the nation’s No. 21 prospect for the class of 2012.
She was a huge admirer of Pat Summitt, the coach of the Lady Vols, and the squad before she signed on. She was among the last athletes to sign a contract with Summitt. Among the final players to sign was her.
Carter participated in five games during the 2012–13 campaign before having an injury that forced him to redshirt. She was chosen to the SEC All-Freshmen Team for the 2013–14 season, and in the 2014–15 season, she led the conference in thefts with 80.
