A South African rapper Costa Titch died on Saturday after passing out onstage at the Ultra South Africa Music Festival in Johannesburg. (March 11). He was 28.
In a statement posted to the rapper’s Instagram account on March 12, the rapper’s family confirmed the sad news. The rapper’s real name was Constantinos Tsobanoglou.
“Death has tragically knocked at our door. Robbing us of our beloved son, brother, and grandson,” the statement reads. “Constantinos Tsobanoglou (28), whom South Africa had come to love and idolize under his stage name ‘Costa Titch.’ It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time.”
His loved ones continued, “As a family, we are faced with a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has befallen us and ask that we be afforded the time and space to gather ourselves. The Tsobanoglou family thanks you for the love and support you have given to our son, and may you continue to uplift him even in spirit. Please keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord.”
At press time, there was no official cause of death.

Videos on social media show Titch passing out briefly during his Ultra South Africa set at Johannesburg’s Nasrec Expo Centre on Saturday. He then gets back up and continues his set before passing out again and being taken to the side.
On Sunday, after Titch died, the organizers of Ultra South Africa sent out a tweet with a statement.

“Costa was a voice that brought people together in South Africa’s Amapiano scene. He was a talented rapper, dancer, singer, songwriter, collaborator, and friend to the festival,” says a statement from Ultra South Africa.
The South African music style ama piano’s rising star, Titch, was signed to Akon’s Konvict Kulture Label. The rapper recently worked with Akon on the song “Big Flexa” on Titch’s Mr. Big Flexa album from 2022.
At the 2020 South African Hip Hop Awards, Titch’s song “Nkalakatha,” which features Riky Rick and Kiernan, “aka” Forbes, won best collaboration and best remix. Aka was shot and killed outside a restaurant in South Africa in early February.
