Philip McKeon, best remembered for his role as Alice’s son on the CBS sitcom “Alice,” died Tuesday morning in a Texas hospital at the age of 55. Jeff Ballard, a representative for his family, said he died after a protracted illness but did not elaborate.

From 1976 to 1985, the actor played Tommy Hyatt on Alice. Nancy McKeon’s older brother. In Martin Scorsese’s 1974 romantic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Alfred Lutter played Alice’s (Ellen Burstyn) son. McKeon took over the role of Lutter after the first episode.
In addition to his performances on CHiPs and Fantasy Island, he starred as a guest star on The Love Boat and Return to Horror High. McKeon relocated to Wimberly, Texas, to be closer to his family and to conduct a radio show for several years.

At the age of four, Philip McKeon started his professional career as a model. He started his career as a child model, making appearances in magazines, newspapers, and television advertisements, when his parents drove him and Nancy, who was two years old at the time, to a nearby modeling audition.
He was hired for other modeling gigs during the ensuing years, and he also played several roles in theater and movies. Alongside Benoit Benjamin, Philip McKeon participated in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Little League Baseball in 1975.
Philip McKeon’s breakthrough performance occurred when Linda Lavin, who saw him in the 1974 Broadway production of Medea and Jason, suggested that he be cast as Tommy in Alice. Lavin thought McKeon was bright and intelligent. It happened when he took the role of young actor Alfred Rutter Jr., who had previously acted as Tommy opposite Ellen Burstyn in a Scorsese film and went on to star in Alice the Pilot. The 1974 Martin Scorsese film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, which won an Academy Award for Ellen Burstyn’s performance, was adapted for television as Alice. Robert Getchell wrote the screenplay for the film.
Philip McKeon resumed his acting career after Alice concluded in 1985, appearing in films such as The Sandman (1993) and The Ghoulies IV (1994). In addition, he produced or directed movies like The First Murder (1995), Young Unknowns (2000), which starred his sister Nancy McKeon, and Teresa’s Tattoo (1994).
Philip McKeon has been employed in the radio industry since 2000. He began his career in the news department of KFWB AM 980 in Los Angeles and later moved to Wimberley, Texas, where he co-hosted the morning program The Breakfast Taco on KWVH-LP 94.1FM.
