Mystikal Career
When he released his first studio album, the rapper rose to prominence. Michael was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 22, 1970. His father (a convenience store owner) died when he was seven years old. He went to Cohen High School, where he graduated in 1988. He then served in the United States Army for several years as a combat engineer. In the 1990s, he decided to pursue a rap career after being inspired by artists such as Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Run DMC, and the NWA.
He was offered a tour with Run DMC and Doug E. Fresh after being discovered by several producers. His big break came when he opened for Run DMC at the Treme Center’s outdoor concert. After impressing Leroy Edwards (aka “Precise”), he landed a recording contract with his label Big Boy Records in 1993.
