This Thursday, Microsoft reports that they have traced hacking attempts made by the Russians, Chinese and Iranians. The motif is to spy on people and groups working for the US 2020 presidential election.
They said that these Russian hackers also tried to breach the 2016 Democratic campaign.
On its website, Microsoft posted “The activity we are announcing today makes clear that foreign activity groups have stepped up their efforts targeting the 2020 election,”.
Chris Krebs said in a statement to CNN that till now they have not found any impact on election systems.
It looks like hackers are targeting both Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s campaigns.

Further Information On The Russian Hackers
According to Microsoft, the Russian hackers from the Strontium group have already targeted more than 200 organisations. Many of those organisations have links to both the Republicans and the Democrats.
These cyber-attackers also target the British political parties.
Strontium, also known as Fancy Bear, is a cyber-attack unit supposedly affiliated with GRU.
What else did Microsoft say?

Tom Burt of Microsoft said that just like in 2016, “Strontium is launching campaigns to harvest people’s log-in credentials or compromise their accounts, presumably to aid in intelligence gathering or disruption operations”.
