King Von Death

King Von, an emerging Chicago rapper, was among three people killed in a shooting in Atlanta early Friday, authorities said. Three other people were injured in the incident and were taken to the hospital.

The rapper, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, 26, was in Atlanta’s Monaco Hookah Lounge on Friday at four in the morning when two males approached his group. According to a report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is looking into the incident, what started as an argument turned into a gunfight.

The Atlanta Police Department sent officers to the location. At two sites, two police started shooting, according to the bureau. In the encounter, no cops suffered any injuries.

His label, EMPIRE, issued a statement mourning the rapper. “He was a loving father, dedicated member of his community and an amazing talent that just started to scratch the surface of his boundless potential,” the statement said. “Von overcame incredibly challenging circumstances as a young man, but never lost sight of what it meant to give back and uplift his community.”

King Von Studio Albums

The first studio album Von ever released, “Welcome to O’Block,” came out in October 2020. Among the guests on the 16-track album are Lil Durk, Polo G, Dreezy, and Prince Dre. Included in it are the hits “All These Niggas,” “Gleesh Place,” “Why He Told,” “How It Go,” and “I Am What I Am.” After his passing, “Welcome to O’Block” eventually became Von’s biggest hit album, peaking at number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list and number five on the Billboard 200.

While Von only put out one studio album during his lifetime, “Welcome to O’Block,” a posthumous album named “What it Means to Be King” was released in March 2022.
